PSL Absa Premiership match report: Orlando Pirates 1-1 Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 10 December 2014 Time: 21:49

Orlando Pirates brought their two-game losing streak in the Absa Premiership to a halt with a 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers came into the game off the back of losses to Maritzburg United and Kaizer Chiefs, but earned a point after coming from behind against the Brazilians, and could probably consider themselves unlucky not to have won.
The first half started with a bang following Sundowns’ opening goal in the fifth minute.
Some great work down the right flank by Themba Zwane saw him beating two defenders before squaring as Cuthbert Malajila helped the ball on to Khama Billiat to tap home from only a yard out, 1-0.
Pirates' night appeared to get worse in the 22nd minute when Daine Klate had to leave the field injured and was replaced by Thabo Rakhale.
The Buccaneers, though, did not let that upset their fightback and they should have restored parity in the 26th minute when Sifiso Myeni played Kermit Erasmus into space, but he failed to beat the keeper from close range.
Six minutes later and Pirates did find the equalising goal when Lennox Bacela turned home a Siyabonga Sangweni cutback following a corner-kick, 1-1.
Sundowns, though, had the last say of the half when Teko Modise played Billiat through on goal, but he fired wide with just the keeper to beat in the 45th minute.
The second half saw the Buccaneers take firm control of the game as Sundowns offered very little in attack.
In the 58th minute Bacela came agonisingly close to finding his second goal on the night when his header from eight yards out from an Oupa Manyisa cross struck Mweene and then the woodwork.
In the 73rd minute Erasmus wasted another glorious chance when he was slipped through on goal, but again Mweene denied him in a one-on-one situation.
Mweene, though, was at fault for Pirates’ next chance on goal in the 79th minute when his poor clearance was picked up and fed to Lehlohonolo Majoro, but he also failed to beat the Sundowns keeper, who did well to recover and block his attempt.
In the end the spoils were shared and the draw sees Sundowns drop to third place on the log following Bidvest Wits' 4-2 win over Ajax Cape Town, while the Buccaneers remain in ninth place.

The central defensive pair is too slow. Rooi Mahamutsa lacks a lot of discipline. His attitude is not welcoming. He is too worried playing the man instead of the ball.

Pirates is not playing the best of football but coming from behind to clinch a draw against Sundowns shows the team still has some fight left in it.

Erusmus is a carbon copy of Nkatha, I love it when Pitso reminds us of his injury list

I'm dissapointed with Kermit the way he squander the balls that he should have scored. This boy lacks consistency. Last time we played Downs he scored a bruise but yesterday it was a dissaster as he have clear chances. I hope Tinkler is working on it or else Major must come in coz I dont think he should have missed all those chances.

Losing only two games in a row cannot be a losing streak.

TinyikoB75  He is like nkatha misses clear one on one chances like our beloved son nkatha, but nkatha is bitter than him as that lady can not use her energy to chase back and defend . Erusmus hold the ball for longer time and waste it and not mark it. Thabo Rakhale is a good player . That Chance Erusmus missed on the second half that boy built it like Yeye did , he seems to watch Yeye's game and he benefits from that.

bucaneer 4 lyf  Erusmus Nkatha, David Radebe, Bacela , Gabuza, Ramagalelaare all the same but Nkatha has something which others are lacking  , that is they are  all Lazy but When it come to missing chances Bacela is 0.0001 better than them.

abtshabalala22  The day Sarr get injury will be the day he will never play the game again. his tackling is scaring , he just put his foot in without checking anything , whether the ball is less dangerous or what. That boy works hard but he resemble Katsende when he was a right back in the days. Pity the reff can not see that.
