Premier Soccer League Kaizer Chiefs Platinum Stars

Posted: 9 December 2014 Time: 18:35

Log leaders Kaizer Chiefs twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Platinum Stars in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday night.

Strikes from Robert Ng'ambi and Eleazar Rodgers put Chiefs under pressure but they preserved their unbeaten run in the League via goals from Siphiwe Tshabalala and Tefu Mashamaite at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The result leaves Amakhosi 14 points clear of second-placed champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who have two games in hand ahead of Wednesday's trip to Orlando Pirates.

Stars, who handed Chiefs their only loss of 2014/15 in the Telkom Knockout in October, improve one spot in the standings to 12th at the expense of University of Pretoria.

Dikwena started brightly, as Ng'ambi calmly beat Brilliant Khuzawayo 12 minutes in after being released one-on-one by Solomon Mathe. Mathe laid on the pass after catching Reneilwe Letsholonyane in possession.

Chiefs, though, hit back four minutes later, as Tshabalala steered in a cross from overlapping left-back Tsepo Masilela, with goalkeeper Kabelo Dambe punished for failing to gather the delivery.

Both teams threatened afterwards, but the visitors made it count on the stroke of half-time as Rodgers reacted first to slot home a loose ball in the box following a miscued shot from teammate Thabiso Semenya.

The second period saw chances at either end, with Dambe notably making two top saves to foil Kingston Nkhatha and keep out a deflected effort from George Maluleka.

However, Dambe was beaten in the 62nd minute when Mashamaite rose impressively to nod in a telling cross from the right by Tshabalala.

Allan Freese's side nearly snatched the points late on but substitute Mogakolodi Ngele, on for Ng'ambi, had a low shot on the turn parried away by Khuzwayo.

Credit to P Stars, and applause to Baxter for taking charge and introduce the right material to craft a come back. Freese's plans worked in the first half but this team is too solid...

Rats are going to beat Dunusa convincingly tomorrow, they lost their last two games, have a new caretaker coach who lost his first game. They will play above themselves.

Two cheap goals given away, these are the games we will look behind n say we should have really won this1 including the1 of PLK City where we missed sitters, I'm not happy but I accept the point nontheless.

Our next 3games I demand maximum point from the boys they are all winnable games.

Still unbeaten 15down the line.

You can put the best keeper in the world there but with that defense, it won't make any difference. Mhlongo is not the problem, the back four is.

Truth be told Nkhatha is costing us big time. People can say what they want but this guy is useless. When will he put in a match winning performance ? Those many small errors are costing us points. I mean for a professional striker Nkhatha is very poor, very very poor. Maybe I don't know soccer but do I have to be a coaching genius to see that a guy is useless ?

Bad day @office, what I saw was utter complacency, lack of vision, poor reading of the game, though a draw is technically a loss for us, I accept it Khosi Nation!

Yeye knows betta not to do that, Nkhatha ya wat more can 1 say, G Maluleka should learn to do things easy and simple, you don't need to be a 'star' always! Shabba is really pushing hard, Gould is a mix bag to me, not entirely satiesfied!

Will take the point, we looking at the Old Lady tomoro!

this is what happens when u mess up our perfect back four instead of directing those changes up front there. i think that was the only flop from the coaches side leading to this days fixture
