Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter said Siphelele Mthembu's patience will pay off after the striker broke his duck at the club against Orlando Pirates on the weekend.
Mthembu scored the second goal as Chiefs beat their fierce rivals 2-0 to extend their unbeaten run and lead at the Absa Premiership summit.
Baxter said Mthembu has been patient and explained what he said to him before he came on to replace Kingston Nkhatha in the 89th minute.
“Siphelele has been waiting patiently, he has showed in training much more than he has able to show in games,” Baxter said.
“I have been really patient with him and I tried to take off pressure and he had a simple... simple instruction and that was keep going behind them... keep going behind them, you will get on the end of something for us.
“Don't risk the ball too much, just keep on going behind them and you cause problems. And he did exactly what we ask him to do and I was pleased that he could score that goal.
“Good professional footballers are not easy to come by, he is a good professional. He works his socks every day.
“And so if there was someone I wanted to see scoring a goal, it was him.”
