Soweto Derby Orlando Pirates Kaizer Chiefs Premier Soccer League

Posted: 6 December 2014 Time: 17:42

Kaizer Chiefs claimed bragging rights with a 2-0 victory over Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Siphiwe Tshabalala and Siphelele Mthembu got the goals as log leaders Chiefs moved 14 points clear of second-placed Ajax Cape Town, who will play their respective 14th League game of the season against SuperSport United tomorrow.

Chippa United and champions Mamelodi Sundowns are in action tonight and could close the gap on the unbeaten Amakhosi.

READ: Pirates vs Chiefs as it happened.

The opening half was a cagey affair, with minimal goal-mouth action.

Chiefs had the first chance in the 19th minute, as Kingston Nkhatha headed over at the near post after overlapping fullback Siboniso Gaxa was released down the right by Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

Tshabalala showed intent on the half-hour mark, but he shot waywardly on the turn after receiving a throw-in at the edge of the area by Gaxa.

At the other end, combative midfielder Thandani Ntshumayelo rattled the side-netting on the angle after bursting into the final third shortly before the recess.

The Glamour Boys raised the tempo after the interval, and struck in the 51st minute when Tshabalala stylishly steered in low cross from the right by Bernard Parker.

Stuart Baxter's men should have doubled the advantage in the 65th minute but Letsholonyane clipped the top of the woodwork with the goal at his mercy.

The Sea Robbers threatened on occasion through unsuccessful strikes from Daine Klate and Sifiso Myeni in the latter stages.

However, Mthembu put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time when he tapped in a right-wing cross from fellow substitute George Lebese.

Yeye missed a seater but you people are saying nothing , had it been Nkatha the whole Sa would have been saying so many things. These things happen in football so we must stop it and support our boys.

How did Eric not play Thabo Rakhale??? The boy could have been the difference between a 2 - 0 defeat and a draw. Brighton Mhlongo is the most useless keeper in the PSL Khoza must give him away for free. We can't idiots like Brighton earning salaries that could be used to pay deserving players. We do no want Mphontshane at Pirates, we want and demand a world class goalie!!!!! We also need to overhaul our defense, Rooi, Jele, Sangweni, Qaba, Nyauza must all make way for players who want to be at Pirates. We need to look beyond the SA boarders for new players!!!!! Oupa keep working hard boy, you deserve to dawn that jersey. Your form might be slightly below parr this season but I believe its high time other players stepped up to the plate and earned their salaries.

@Bucslicious, ya a game where we were comprehensively outclassed. We need to rebuild our team now and it does not get any easier - we are playing Sundowns next. Lets pick up the pieces and look forward.

Mr Khoza, I hope you felt what we felt on Saturday evening.

Bucslicious my friend they can't play two strikers at the same time, simply because they will be massacred, most of the teams play to determine outcome when playing against PIRATES simply because they can't match them on possession, so the 4-4-2 give the opposition more space when they get the ball after defending too deep, so its understandable why they play this way, it's more to protect their defense in case they play into opposition tactics. I concur with you he should have risked putting MAJORO with him but the question is now, what would the supporters have said or behaved if  PIRATES lost by 4-0, if that plan backfired. Think about it.

Glamour Boy i must say YEYE can play good one-two combination soccer and that is why he was picked by SHAKES simply because he can share the ball quicker and split up play.

Hai Bucaneer you are out of order. Are you not an agent?

True Bhakaniya will accept that you win some and lose some, just accept the Khosi played at a faster pace & deserve it.

We must not lose hope. You remember what happens to Khosi last year, No Trophy, they never lost hope.

What is this all to do with u guys consoLing yourselves with conquering Africa?it is almost 20 years now since u got that star, yet Chiefs won an African tittle too in 2001. So is that not conquering Africa? Or were they playing Asian counterparts?. Besides why would u always mention the star when ur team is firing blanks? Am sure even if it was to happen that ur team gets relegated u would be praising the 1995 team. Get behind ur team and stop talking of 1995 glory. The later glory is greater the former glory and even more sweeter.

Pirates suporters u need to acept that Khosi is the best more than u. Stop talking about the star. That heppened 1995 the most of us we don't even knw about soccer by then. We took a cup in 2001 that's long but we never prace ourself by that. U may just tell yourself that one day it will heppen n win berby, but remember u lost twice in a row
