Premier Soccer League Soweto Derby Orlando Pirates Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 6 December 2014 Time: 14:30

Kaizer Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates 2-0 in the Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

FT: Chiefs win 2-0 thanks to second-half goals from Tshabalala and Mthembu.

93' - CHIEFS GOAL! Mthembu converts fellow sub Lebese's cross from the right from close range.

90' - There will be four minutes of optional time.

89' - Chiefs sub: Mthembu replaces Nkhatha.

88' - Khuzwayo bravely races off his line to deny Erasmus the chance to pull the trigger.

85' - Myeni powers a long-range effort over.

84' - Chiefs sub: Gould comes on for Parker.

77' - Pirates sub: Klate makes way for Matlaba.

77'- Chiefs sub: Lebese replaces Masango.

76' - Myeni thunders a shot on target which is deflected into the side-netting.

72' - Klate snatches at the shot and drags his effort across the face of goal. He didn't get hold of that.

69' - Pirates double sub: Makola replaces Ntshumayelo, Erasmus comes on for Majoro.

67' - Mhlongo pushes wide a tame, right-footed shot from Shabba on the angle.

65' - BAD MISS! Yeye clips the goal frame from a few yards out with the goal at his mercy! Pirates 0-1 (Shabba 51') Chiefs.

64' - Yeye tries to find Nkhatha at the back post with a delicate chip but Phungwayo heads clear.

59' - Myeni has an effort deflected narrowly over for a corner, which is subsequently cleared by Amakhosi.

56' - Chiefs yellow: Nkhatha is cautioned.

56' - Masilela heads over a cross from the right.

55' - Chiefs press as Yeye acrobatically hooks an effort over after a deflection invited an attempt on goal.

51'- CHIEFS GOAL! Tshabalala stylishly steers in a low, right wing cross from Parker! Pirates 0-1 Chiefs.

48' - Jele nips in to rob Masango of the ball following a fine pass by Shabba.

47' - The diminutive Klate shows good commitment as he beats Gaxa in an aerial challenge.

46' - Pirates get the second half underway. No changes at the interval.

HT: Pirates 0-0 Chiefs.

45' - Mahamutsa causes some anxious moments for Mhlongo as his clearing header goes narrowly wide. There will be two minutes of optional time.

42' - Masango catches Phungwayo a touch late, with the Bucs man taking a bit of time to get to his feet. No action taken by referee Tinyani.

40' - Five minutes before the recess with very little in the way of goal-mouth action so far.

37' - Bibo rattles the side-netting with a shot on the angle after bursting into a dangerous area!

36' - Phungwayo disappoints as he fails to combine with ex-Wits teammate Myeni down the left. The hand goes up in apology, much more is expected of the Bafana fullback.

34' - Mhlongo comes off his line again to snuff out an attempted through-ball by Shabba.

31' - Masango and Yeye trade passes on the edge of the area before the latter's first-time attempt flies harmlessly high and wide. Right idea, poor execution.

30' - Still no goals, it's been decidedly cagey, no huge surprise there.

28' - Shabba miscues his shot on the turn after receiving a throw-in from Gaxa on the edge of the box.

26' - Tower is getting seen to on the sidelines, as play continues. Pirates 0-0 Chiefs.

25' - Majoro clatters into the knee of the clearing Mathoho, who is receiving some medical attention.

24' - Mhlongo is alert to come off his line and collect a through-ball which nearly found it's way to Nkhatha.

22' - Still goalless, with Nkhatha's useful header the only real sniff on goal so far.

19' - Nkhatha heads Gaxa's cross over after Yeye released Pa down the right. Nice build-up play there.

17'- Shabba earns a free-kick after being strongly challenged in quick succession by Phungwayo and Mahamutsa. Bucs clear the follow-up delivery. No doubt Tinkler's men are well aware Chiefs are dangerous on set-pieces.

14' - Phungwayo balloons his effort from range after Klate neatly touched down Sarr's excellent cross-field ball.

12' - Khuzwayo punches clear a cross from the left by the overlapping Phungwayo, as Bucs start to find some rhythm. Pirates 0-0 Chiefs.

10'- Majoro drops the shoulder but Mathoho is alert and slides in to concede a corner, which is eventually cleared.

7' - Mathoho drives forward out of defence with purpose but his pass is intercepted by Manyisa before Chiefs regroup.

5' - Possession is getting traded fairly rapidly, there's a measured intensity out there.

4' - Masilela does well to get down the left flank before he is crowded out by Lekgwathi lookalike Nyauza.

2' - Sarr loses possession in midfield but then slides in aggressively to arrest Parker's progress. That sent a little message.

1' - We are underway between Pirates and Chiefs, with referee Phillip Tinyani officiating the marquee fixture at Soccer City.

--------------------

Chiefs, unbeaten log leaders with 33 points from 13 games, bolstered their confidence in midweek with a 3-0 away walloping of title rivals Bidvest Wits.

Pirates, meanwhile, are a team in transition following coach Vladimir Vermezovic's resignation on Tuesday in the wake of a 2-1 home loss to high-flying Maritzburg United.

Eric Tinkler has since been promoted to the hotseat, with Bucs lying seventh on the Absa Premiership table with 18 points from 12 matches.

Tinkler has made six team changes since the defeat to United, bringing in defenders Rooi Mahamutsa, Ntsikelelo Nyauza and Patrick Phungwayo, midfielders Thandani Ntshumayelo and Daine Klate, and ex-Chiefs striker Lehlohonolo Majoro.

The men to make way are: Siyabonga Sangweni, Ayanda Gcaba, Thabo Matlaba, Mpho Makola, Khethokwakhe Masuku and Kermit Erasmus.

Buccaneers winger Thabo Qalinge is on compassionate leave due to a family bereavement.

Amakhosi mentor Stuart Baxter has made one adjustment since his unit's rout of Wits, injecting Mandla Masango at the expense of fellow midfielder George Maluleka.

The Glamour Boys are minus injured fullback Kgotso Moleko.

Pirates: Mhlongo, Mahamutsa, Jele, Nyauza, Phungwayo, Sarr, Ntshumayelo, Myeni, Klate, Manyisa, Majoro. Subs: Zikalala, Sangweni, Matlaba, Masalesa, Rakhale, Makola, Erasmus.

Chiefs: Khuzwayo, Gaxa, Mashamaite, Mathoho, Masilela, Katsande, Letsholonyane, Tshabalala, Parker, Masango, Nkhatha. Subs: Pieterse, Maluleka, Gould, Lebese, Mthembu, Dladla, Bukenya.

Pirates line-up looks good I must say, especially at the back with Phungwayo starting and Sarr in the middle, as for my team, Maluleka is missing there but other than that we are looking good.
