PSL Absa Premiership match report: Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 SuperSport United

Posted: 3 December 2014 Time: 21:48

Goals from Khama Billiat, Themba Zwane and Teko Modise helped Mamelodi Sundowns to a 3-1 Absa Premiership win over SuperSport United on Wednesday evening.

SuperSport opened the scoring through Dove Wome, but Downs fought back to secure all there points against Matsatsantsa, who had Thuso Phala sent off just before the hour-mark.
Wome continued the trend of Sundowns players scoring against their parent club, with the on-loan SuperSport midfielder following in the footsteps of Eleazar Rodgers and Thamsanqa Sangweni.
The Togo international ran onto a through-ball from Thuso Phala before rounding Kennedy Mweene and finishing with aplomb in the 17th minute, 1-0.
Wome almost grabbed his brace three minutes later. Mweene spilled Sibusiso Khumalo’s shot from range into the path of the midfielder, who failed to put away the rebound as the goalkeeper made the block.
The Brazilians pulled level through Billiat in the 32nd minute. Cuthbert Malajila put enough pressure on at the near post to deflect Hlompho Kekana's cross into the path of the unmarked Zimbabwe international, who made no mistake from close range.
Pitso Mosimane’s men continued to bombard the Matsatsantsa goal and took the lead through Themba Zwane on the stroke of half-time. Malajila's header forced Ronwen Williams into a superb save, before Zwane found the back of the net on the rebound, 2-1 at the break.
SuperSport were dealt a further blow in the 59th minute after Phala received his marching orders for lashing out at Billiat.
Modise wrapped things up for the hosts in the 74th minute. His first-time effort from the edge of the area took a wicked deflection, which completely wrong-footed Williams who just stood and watched the ball bulge the back of the net.
The win moves Sundowns up to fifth place on the Absa Premiership standings, while SuperSport drop to 11th.

Violent conduct

Instead of celebrating their win, Chiefs fans are here talking gibberish and blaming the ref. Phala was sent off for violent conduct and duly so. Sundowns was in control of that match and did not need any ref's intervention. What really messed GI's plans was the injury to Wome.

Punch was caught by a brilliant pass to Wome, but I would like Pitso to give him another chance. Nomandela has not adjusted to the team's way of playing.

Criticism : our play still has a lot of backwards passing, even when a player is unmarked the first instinct is to turn and pass back. Pitso needs to fix this.

Otherwise it's good to win.

They are good at beating up referees, they should have run into the field like one of them did to Mfiki and beat Gomes if they feel he was unfair to SSU.

Everytime Sundowns wins it gives them sleepless nights and I wonder why a "small team" as they call us, is making their lives miserable.

I understand Punch is not match and SSU failed to exploit that after Wome was replaced but I am happy that there is competition for Langerman on the left, it's a pity Mashaba got injured as I believe he is the better leftback amongst the 3 of them.

Advice Baxter first to bench your defensive striker Nkhatha after he has taken your advice then you can advise Pitso about Mweene.

Eish IV been talking of those back passes for a while now,and we have a tendency of back passing and staying back until we concede a goal that's when we will start going foward or on the last ten minutes of the game, otherwise a good turning point,Punch must be given his chance like Langerman
