Mamelodi Sundowns defender Nthethe gears up for Tshwane derby thriller against Telkom Knockout champions SuperSport United

Posted: 3 December 2014 Time: 09:23

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thabo Nthethe predicts a "thriller" for tonight's Tshwane derby with newly crowned Telkom Knockout champions SuperSport United.

Both clubs are desperate for points as they are some way behind unbeaten log leaders Kaizer Chiefs, who have amassed 30 points from 12 matches.

Sundowns, the 2013/14 Absa Premiership winners, are seventh on the table with 17 points from 11 games, while 10th-placed SuperSport - who pipped Platinum Stars to cup honours on the weekend - are two points poorer from as many fixtures.

“This particular derby has never failed to deliver and is not about to do so, as both coaches encourage flowing football,” Nthethe told his club's official website.

“We want to win the match at all cost and SuperSport on the other hand just come from a high of winning the Telkom Knockout. I really predict a thriller of a match.”

Nthethe called on Downs' supporters to make their presence felt at Lucas Moripe Stadium this evening (kick-off: 19h30).

“This will be my second derby for Sundowns against SuperSport. My first was epic and very special because it’s the match that decided the League for us but what made it more special was our supporters who came in huge numbers.

“Once again this is a home game for us and I know for a fact that all the players would appreciate and love a derby atmosphere where Sundowns supporters pack the stadium and are the voice behind the team.”

The ex-Bloemfontein Celtic captain added: “A good home game environment is created by the supporters and if it’s consistent it can win you matches.

“There’s nothing as uplifting as hearing your supporters firmly behind you. Even if you are a goal behind you’ll draw your last energy from the belief in the stands.”

Mr Nthethe....your work rate has dropped and you guys really need to pull up your socks! SSU is on fire and if we are not careful they might rip us apart. We need 3 points tonight to stay in contention. Nothing more nothing less!

We tend to make costly mistakes when under pressure and our defence is not well organised and very slow. First it was Erasmus who exposed us when we loose 3-0 to Pirates, and Rodgers when we loose to platinum Stars.

We need a solid defence against Phala, Wome and company. We cannot afford to loose tonight. KBY!!!

This guy helped us keep clean sheets when he came. And we won the league, now he's a zebra material???.

looks like we're all confused like our management. Let's appreciate what we have, in ntethe we have a good defender. Release him and see what he would do for another club.haikabi kby

I like the fact that most of our players are injured.

I can't wait to see some of our boys given the chance that others have been wasting. Zungu,,Cheese Boy,Mahachi, Laffor, Mbatha.

Punch, Mashaba,Moon, Asavela Mbekile, Nomandela . Most player hated Niang and Ramagalela all this players are raising their hands and can make a difference. Moriri, pelembe, langerman, booyesens, Mweene , billiat and ejike should UP Their game. Kby.

stonza Ngwende stonza - I also heard the same talk before our match against Zebras, they said Downs is too weak Zebras were going to kill us but what happened in that match was that Downs was all over Zebras who were protected by their ref - Downs played against 12 men on the day. I also tell you that the penalty awarded to Mathebula during TKO if it was Downs it was not going to be awarded - I only FEAR refs not our opponents.

Neskeens fired khumalo and litlabika, pitso called them back to the senior team. Then letlabika decided to leave. But khumalo was starting to play then got injured, you know what happens when you get injured at downs. Our key players are always injured Bo zuma, zothwane, cale, cheese boy , mampuru, mashaba etc. I haven't figured it out what the problem is.

stonza Ngwende stonza, what do you say now that your SSU has been molested again by mighty Downs: 3-1. I told you that you can't just undermine Downs like that we're the reigning PSL Champs don't forget.
