Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thabo Nthethe predicts a "thriller" for tonight's Tshwane derby with newly crowned Telkom Knockout champions SuperSport United.
Both clubs are desperate for points as they are some way behind unbeaten log leaders Kaizer Chiefs, who have amassed 30 points from 12 matches.
Sundowns, the 2013/14 Absa Premiership winners, are seventh on the table with 17 points from 11 games, while 10th-placed SuperSport - who pipped Platinum Stars to cup honours on the weekend - are two points poorer from as many fixtures.
“This particular derby has never failed to deliver and is not about to do so, as both coaches encourage flowing football,” Nthethe told his club's official website.
“We want to win the match at all cost and SuperSport on the other hand just come from a high of winning the Telkom Knockout. I really predict a thriller of a match.”
Nthethe called on Downs' supporters to make their presence felt at Lucas Moripe Stadium this evening (kick-off: 19h30).
“This will be my second derby for Sundowns against SuperSport. My first was epic and very special because it’s the match that decided the League for us but what made it more special was our supporters who came in huge numbers.
“Once again this is a home game for us and I know for a fact that all the players would appreciate and love a derby atmosphere where Sundowns supporters pack the stadium and are the voice behind the team.”
The ex-Bloemfontein Celtic captain added: “A good home game environment is created by the supporters and if it’s consistent it can win you matches.
“There’s nothing as uplifting as hearing your supporters firmly behind you. Even if you are a goal behind you’ll draw your last energy from the belief in the stands.”
