Pirates split spoils with Tuks

Posted: 26 November 2014 Time: 21:21

Orlando Pirates could find no way past a resolute University of Pretoria as the clubs drew 0-0 at Tuks Stadium on Wednesday night.

It was Sammy Troughton and Seloatse Mosala's first game in charge of AmaTuks following long-serving coach Steve Barker's defection to AmaZulu at the weekend.

Pirates started the Absa Premiership tie brightly, as Sifiso Myeni cut in sharply off the right flank before drilling a left-footed shot straight at Washington Arubi, who made no mistake in the fourth minute.

Seven minutes later Bucs striker Lennox Bacela failed to steer a Daine Klate pass on target after taking up a great position in the box.

The visitors threatened again midway through the first stanza, but Thabo Rakhale ballooned his attempt over from close range after being superbly teed up by overlapping left-back Patrick Phungwayo.

Soon after Myeni fired an effort just over from range following good work down the left by Klate.

Tuks nearly stole ahead three minutes after the break, but striker Thabo Mnyamane was bravely foiled by the onrushing Brighton Mhlongo.

Buccaneers defender Ntsikelelo Nyauza showed intent with a marauding run in the 55th minute but his final shot was weak and easily gathered by Arubi.

The Sea Robbers pressed in the latter stages, as Mpho Makola, Issa Sarr and Man of the Match Oupa Manyisa had cracks on goal without success.
