Luvolwethu Mpeta itching to make Bafana Bafana debut

Posted: 26 November 2014 Time: 12:02

Platinum Stars defender Luvolwethu Mpeta hopes the Telkom Knockout Final against SuperSport United on Saturday will strengthen his case for a Bafana Bafana starting place.

Mpeta – who was selected in the Shakes Mashaba’s squad for the matches against Sudan and Nigeria – did not feature in any of the matches with the coach preferring Sibusiso Khumalo in the left-back position.
However, Mpeta is not giving up hope and tells that he is aiming for a strong showing on Saturday as he looks to convince Masahaba to hand him his national team debut in future matches.
“I have to do well for the team on Saturday but I also have a point to prove,” Mpeta says.
“I was part of the Bafana Bafana team for the last two matches and now the time has come to take it further. I am ready for my debut for the national team and this is what I am working towards.
“More than anything else, I want to play in the Africa Cup of Nations and to me, the [Telkom Knockout] Final on Saturday is an opportunity to prove that I deserve a starting place in the national team,” adds the defender.
Mpeta, however, appreciates the stiff competition that he will have to contend with for the left-back position.
“Look, there are players like Thabo Matlaba, Khumalo and Tshepo Masilela who are all seasoned players. I am ready to compete for my place and I have to be confident and continue to tell myself that my time will come,” he adds.
