Sifiso Myeni scored deep into stoppage time to hand Orlando Pirates a 2-1 victory over SuperSport United in their Absa Premiership clash on Sunday.
Thuso Phala opened the scoring for the hosts before substitute Issa Sarr pulled the visitors level, and Myeni buried a final chance in the 95th minute of time added on to secure three points for the Buccaneers.
SuperSport will be kicking themselves after missing a few great chances to seal the three points before Roscoe Pietersen was sent off for a second yellow card in the 78th minute. From then on it was all Pirates, who created chance after chance to snatch a memorable turnaround.
In the first half, SuperSport had the first dangerous moment of the game on the counter-attack as Phala released Lebogang Manyama through on goal, but Brighton Mhlongo was alert in the Bucs goal and came out to sweep away the danger right on cue.
Pirates had the next chance when Thabo September misjudged a cross into the box and the ball fell to Kermit Erasmus, but Thamsanqa Teyise got back to make a fantastic last-ditch block.
Ronwen Williams had an awkward moment while doing his own bit of sweeping at the back as he chested the ball straight to Erasmus, but the Pirates striker was unable to hook the ball back over his head an into the open goal.
SuperSport took the lead after a sloppy giveaway of possession between Mpho Makola and Lehlogonolo Masalesa after 20 minutes of play.
Dino Ndlovu put his side on the attack before a silky outside-foot pass from Morne Nel found the onrushing Thuso Phala, who took one touch before burying the ball into the roof of the net from a tight angle.
Pirates had two good chances to equalise 10 minutes before the interval. First Sifiso Myeni missed a far-post header from Erasmus' set-up before Oupa Manyisa forced Williams into a save, with Ntsikelelo Nyauza blasting the rebound over the bar.
Five minutes after the restart it should have been 2-0 to SuperSpory when David Mathebula squared it on a plate for Ndlovu, who skewed his shot wide.
Ryan Chapman then had another chance in a three-on-two break but could only shoot straight at Mhlongo.
After the red card for Pietersen it was all Pirates. Coach Vladmir Vermezovic threw on Lennox Bacela, Issa Sarr and Thabo Rakhale as they went all-out attack, with Daine Klate particularly impressive.
It was Klate's corner from which Sarr buried a header to equalise in the 72nd minute. Klate then put a pinpoint cross onto Rakhale's head but the development player could not keep his free header down.
Happy Jele had to clear off the line after a poor punch from Mhlongo allowed Nel to head over the stranded goalkeeper, but his right-back was on the line to save his blushes.
There was initially four minutes of stoppage time meant to be added, which then changed to six minutes, and Pirates got the equaliser they were looking for in the 95th minute.
Sarr's flick-on found Bacela in the area, and the striker – tasting his first action this season – chested it down for Myeni, who blasted home to the delight of The Ghost at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
