Honour Janza hopes to avoid Cape Verde at Afcon 2015

Posted: 20 November 2014 Time: 16:55

Zambia coach Honour Janza says he hopes to avoid Cape Verde in the 2015 Africa Nations Cup draw on December 3.

In-form Cape Verde are the only side to have beaten Zambia in the 2015 Africa Cup qualifiers whom they defeated 2-1 on match-day-two in Praia on September 10.

It later took 78 minutes in the return leg on November 19 at home for Zambia to avenge that defeat when they beat The Blue Sharks 1-0 in both sides' final Group F match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

"I have respect for Cape Verde - I think in our group they are a team that gave us a lot of homework," Janza said.

"On the pitch they are a good side and I want to congratulate my fellow coach from Cape Verde for qualifying and I hope we won't be in the same group there (in Equatorial Guinea)."

Cape Verde and Zambia have both qualified from Group F after finishing first and second on 12 and 11 points respectively.

Over confidence is what kills some teams. Its true, Bafana Bafana had a good run in the qualifiers, but so did Botswana in the runup to the 2012 championships. Bafana have been away from serious tournment soccer, therefore, my advice is to have measured expectations otherwise you will have heart attacks-(anyway, some of you always have excuses-that coach, players from that club etc when you lose). But  congrats for qualifying
