Free State Stars defender Robert Sankara has given praise to Kinnah Phiri stating that he believes the Malawian coach should be able to guide them to a top-eight finish at the end of the season.
Phiri has taken over from Tom Saintfiet - who was shown the door two weeks after a shock heavy defeat to Polokwane City - and will begin his fourth spell in charge of Stars against Bidvest Wits on Saturday night.
Sankara, a naturalised Burkinabe born in Ivory Coast, has played a vital role for Ea Lla Koto since signing for the team at the start of the season, starting eight of their 10 League games.
“It is always a challenge for players when the club suddenly changes coaches but for us we have to forget about the past and work according to how the new coach wants us to do things,” Sankara tells KickOff.com.
“Luckily, our new coach is a man who knows the club very well because I have been told that he has been the head coach of the club before. I like how he has done things so far and I am sure we will be able to finish in the top eight at the end of the season because you can see that he knows what he wants to achieve with the team.”
The 29-year-old adds that it is important that they fight for points in every game from here on in.
“We need to fight as a team in every game that we play. I really like the fact that we have good competition in the team which means all our players are willing to get into the team. For me personally, I also like that we have such a professional set-up at the club.”
