Orlando Pirates vs SuperSport United in the Telkom Knockout semi-final

Posted: 8 November 2014 Time: 20:40

Orlando Pirates fell short of their sixth consecutive cup final after going down 2-0 to SuperSport United in their Telkom Knockout semi-final at the Orlando Stadium.

Matsatsantsa advanced to their first cup final under former Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund through after a well-deserved victory over the Buccaneers, with the goals coming from Lebogang Manyama and Dove Wome in the first half.

It was an evenly matched battle in the first 20 minutes of the match as both teams looked to get a feel for the pitch in the wet conditions.

The first real effort of the match fell to SuperSport in the 20th minute as Brighton Mhlongo came off his line to collect a high ball, but was beaten by one of his defenders and the Telkom Knockout debutant was found in no-man's land as Happy Jele was in the right place at the right time to clear a shot off the line.

The 0-0 scoreline didn't last much longer as Manyama made sure to blast his effort into the roof of the net from the resultant corner after Clayton Daniels' header hit the woodwork.

Wome doubled Matsatsantsa's lead in the 35th minute after a brilliant low cross from Thuso Phala on the left wing, with the Togolese striker sliding home at the back post.

Pirates were lucky not to go 3-0 down before the half-time break after David Mathebula's tap-in from close range was ruled off-side by the near-side official.

Vladimir Vermezovic brought on Kermit Erasmus immediately after the half-time break, as he looked to turn the deficit around. Klate then also came on to replace Segolela minutes later, and Bucs looked a dangerous side going forward.

Despite dominating in possession, VV's side created little clear cut opportiunities as Igesund shifted to defensive tactics by bringing on Pietersen in place of Mathebula.

In the end it was all but enough for Bucs, as SuperSport held onto their half-time lead and secured their place in the 2014 Telkom Knockout Final.

Some words have a very negative disrespectful connotation to others like refaring to rats as 'we are still mourning fc pls guys we the Khosis and dunus must refrain from that.

You have no right to tell people which names to use while you still call Pirates "rats" and Sundowns "dunus", what you proposing must start with you call other teams by their rightful names maybe people will take you serious.

My OPINION, good people I know we're not the same and we don't think the same, but things like mourners fc refering to pirates after senzo's death are not good, we need to stop it please.

Remember that man was a husband, a team mate, a son, a friend and a coleague who was loved by people, please my fellow bloggers, but as for pirates they and their coach need to stop using senzo's death as an excuse, they need to let by gones be by gones and start focusing on the task at hand.

You gotta love SA Football! In the eyes of the Lord God we are equal. Once upon a time Chiefs had 9 players coming from national (Bafana) duty and Chiefs asked for postponement of their match against Wits. PSL/SAFA rejected Chiefs request. Wits them beat Chiefs. Orlando came back from playing in CAF and they asked for their match against Amazulu to be postponed. Being treated special as always, PSL agreed to postpone the match. Amazulu waited for their turn and Pirates lost to Amazulu. God luvs all of us. Some years ago a living legend Fani Madida scored 34 goals in one season and set a South Africa record. A Pirates player dies with only 22 goals and the leading goalscorers award is named after Manyathela. They forgot Fani Madida.Early this year, Denis Lota dies and 3 days later Swallows plays against Amazulu on Friday night. Swallows were never given time to mourn. A few days Meyiwa dies and Pirates were given two match postponement and all PSL matches stopped for a weekend. Today, Pirates e kgwatha...! God is for us all... Just chilling playing Inqeba Lendoda and What goes around, comes back around

Khosi Till Tell us what to happened to Rocks Dlamini.
