Khumalo’s dreams shattered

Posted: 2008-10-22 10:00

Thabiso ‘Boyzzz’ Khumalo’s dreams of CONCACAF Champions League glory with DC United came to an end last night after the MLS side were knocked out of the competition by Mexico’s Cruz Azul.

United played with 10 men for more than an hour after James Thorpe was sent off for two bookable offences, leaving Khumalo isolated as a lone attacker.

Nicolas Vigneri and Pablo Zeballos scored for the home side, who top the group with 10 points from Marathon of Honduras and Saprissa of Costa Rica (both seven), followed by United (one).

But despite the disappointment, the forward, who turns 28 on Monday, has been one of the stand-out performers for DC United this season having started each of the last six matches in the MLS.

He is only on loan from Second Division Pittsburgh Riverhounds, but reports in the United States suggest coach Tom Soehn will look to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

US sucks when it comes to SOCCER (hockey, baseball, golf and NBA are the sports that dominate there and have big sponsors… with big money for the players as well) – football is weak that side – look at what happened to our son (DOCTOR KHUMALO) – his standard of football was weak after the US tour.

Young Khumalo (Doc’s young brother) must move to Spain! This guy is a good player and needs to compete with the best players, not the Tiger Woods of America!

Mxo: 2008-10-22 10:28

Proff you are dreaming...as usual.
this man will never land a contract in Spain noma esekhala..phela even in USA this man belongs to a second division side he is only on loan at DC...and he is already 28...

All players that play in these wak Leagues – must not be called! Rather play our PSL players… it’s the same. Jabu Mahlangu (was even worse after playin’ there)… look at Vilakazi… (Weak – not the same player that made me shack whenever he touches the ball)… man I won’t comment about Nomvete… epscailly after he left Itlay – where is he playing this one manje… Tropical Islands – hehehe!

Nna trully speaking i havent seen this guy play, but from my little knowlegde of soccer,USA soccer league is not so strong. Yes Kick off gives us information on SA players and is a gud thing to do but i think this guy is getting a lot of coverage latley which i think he dont deserve, but that is only my opinion.

Marlon: 2008-10-22 14:04

Guys I must put the record straight on the MLS. I wish SA fans would educate themselves about football around the world. The MLS is much stronger than the PSL. 50% of the US team that beat Bafana play in the MLS. Now that is not weak. The reason why it has grown so strong is because they has sourced stars to play in their league like Beckham,Blanco and Angel. Now these stars educate the US youngsters around them on the field and improve the standard. If you want to see real diski watch Blanco of Chicago Fire. This Mexican is a real star of South American football. He is Dr Khumalo and Shoes combined. Sundowns has learned that concept of buying stars from the MLS. When Sundowns players get it right, watch out! Imagine if Chiefs or Pirates sign JayJay Okocha or Stam or Cafu or Viera or Cocu or Rivaldo - these are exceptional players that the youngsters can look up too and emulate. The younger players will grow and learn from the best. The same thing will happen at Sundowns with Zuma. Only if Sundowns had younger players the presents of Zuma will help them so much. And this is what the MLS is doing. Bringing the former stars to the league so that the youngsters feed off on that quality. The MLS is definately stronger than the PSL because of that policy.
