Nigeria keep their Afcon 2015 hopes alive

Posted: 15 October 2014 Time: 19:59

Nigeria kept their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations hopes alive with a hard-fought 3-1 qualifying win against Sudan on Wednesday night.

The Super Eagles, the defending champions, had been without a win so far and suffered a shock 1-0 defat to the same opponents over the weekend, but there was to be no repeat.

After a goalless first half in which the visitors threatened, Nigeria took the lead on 48 minutes through Ahmed Musa after John Obi Mikel had played him in.

However, the Sudanese were level soon after when a quick free-kick allowed Salah Ibrahim to sneak in and equalise.

Nigeria restored the lead in fortuitous circumstances just past the hour-mark when Emmanuel Emenike’s cross was spilled, allowing Aaron Samuel to slot home.

And the Eagles made sure of the points in the dying minutes, with Musa dispossessing a defender on the edge of the area, beating one defender and then firing home.

The result puts Nigeria on four points, with Sudan one behind and bringing up the rear.

From what I can see SA & Congo have qualified , all what Nigeria can manage is a win against SA at home but that's where everything end for them , they will b lucky to get a draw against Congo away from home

hdsethoba1  Are you calling Nigerian football fans; drug dealers? I think that is very rude and ignorant of you. I have heard a lot about some arrogant South Africans, your statement makes you look like one of them. I think you should show some respect, otherwise I would have you sent to a college for three month course in political correctness. I am embarrassed by your level of IGNORANCE, you should be ashamed of yourself..

I have a nigerian friend, he is a teacher and not a drug dealer, this is a football platform and not a political platform. When I go to his place he knows I won't pull my punches when we talk football and we appreciate each other like that, he's a pirates fan and im chiefs, so let's talk football and not the things that are not football related
