Bafana Player ratings vs Congo

Posted: 13 October 2014 Time: 09:11

KickOff.com rates the Bafana Bafana players in their 2-0 Africa Cup of Nations win against Congo in Pointe Noire.

6 - Senzo Meyiwa: Still looks suspect under the high ball, with some poor punches putting the team under pressure, but at the same time some crucial saves that kept Bafana in the game.

7 – Thulani Hlatshwayo: Another solid, assured performance at right-back, though he was lucky not to concede a penalty in the first half. Could get forward more.

7 – Rivaldo Coetzee: Became Bafana Bafana’s youngest ever player, but looked like he had been playing international football for some time. One crucial clearance early in the first half.

8 – Mulomowandau Mathoho: Followed a brilliant outing against Nigeria with another strong performance in Pointe Noire. Won everything in the air, as you’d expect, and read the game well.

7 – Thabo Matlaba: Bombed forward as ever and tested the keeper with a few long-range shots, and also did his job at the back.

9 – Dean Furman: ‘Mhlungu’ once again delivered when it mattered most. Broke down most Congo attacks before the even started, rallied his teammates, and produce a Xavi-esque pass for Tokelo Rantie to score. The only surprise is how he still plays in such a low league in England.

8 – Andile Jali: His partnership with Furman is arguably the main reason for Shakes Mashaba’s early success in the job. Got stuck in, disrupted Congo’s game and got forward when needed.

6 – Mandla Masango: A better performance than the one against Nigeria, he looked full of running and put in some good crosses.

6 – Thulani Serero: A quiet game for the Ajax Amsterdam man, he looked a player who only just came into the team. Didn’t help that the Congo defenders seemed intent on kicking chunks out of him.

7 – Bongani Ndulula: Held the ball up well and was rewarded with a brilliant overhead-kick goal, reminiscent of Thabo Mngomeni’s goal on the same pitch 14 years ago. Proving his doubters wrong.

6 – Tokelo Rantie: Took his goal well, but still misses too many chances for an international striker. Looked indecisive in front of goal, wasting a golden opportunity very early on. Not helped by a lack of game-time in England.

Substitutes

6 – Reneilwe Letsholonyane: Brought on with 12 minutes to go to shore up the midfield and secure the game. Could have even got his name on the scoresheet, but rushed his shot when he had time.

6 – Kermit Erasmus: Came on for Rantie with 17 minutes remaining, but had few chances to impress in front of goal.

6 – Sibusiso Vilakazi: Replaced Ndulula as Mashaba added numbers to the midfield and looked to secure the points. Could have added a third, but hit a tame shot straight at the keeper.

The Glamour Boys  wow glamour boys. Obi is a star, playing with average players in Nigeria. Dean cant even make it in first division in England.

cowditor are you for real Here, meyiwa 6 that actually stood between Congo and 3 assured goals ? Even bra sheke admit in a press conference that if not for senzo Congo would've scored a few. I'm flabbergasted with your ranking for senzo, you are a true child through and through. Sies! Once and always bucs.

Yeye, 12 min but was rated too. Rats fans are sometimes disgusting. This is not about Rats or Zebras for that matter but our national team.

Wonder the Legend 2.5 for YEYE would have been appropriate, for his experience, he should scored that easy chance.
