Best & Worst of the Weekend

It was a weekend of huge drama in the Telkom Knockout Cup – and one littered with spectacular goals. Here is the best and worst …
Goal of the Weekend: We were spoilt for choice this weekend. Elias Pelembe’s winner for Sundowns, Mark van Heerden’s long-range equaliser for AmaZulu, Bernard Parker’s moment of ingenuity against Maritzburg or even Sameegh Doutie’s finish against Swallows. But the Goal of the Weekend goes to Jabulani Shongwe, for his composed, curling effort into the top corner in Wits’ 3-0 win against Swallows.
Moment of the Weekend: It’s been a horror season for AmaZulu, and for the game againsr Bloemfontein Celtic coach Craig Rosslee was asked to step aside, though not (yet) fired. It looked like another defeat as they were trailing 2-0 with less than 10 minutes to go, but Mark van Heerden’s goal on 81 minutes – a long-range screamer – proved the catalyst for an unlikely turnaround. Usuthu went on to win 3-2.
Weekend to forget for: Ernst Middendorp and Celtic. To throw away a winning position for there is criminal, and it only adds to an already woeful season which has seen them win only once. The axe is looming …
Quote of the Weekend: “I want to say something, because I want to protect the coach; because I’m in the team talks. It’s not fair! The players are not listening to what we’ve told them to do. And I’m going to personally give them a blasting, and I want the coach to be there. It’s nonsense, because everyone will blame the coach but it’s bull-dust." – Swallows boss Leon Prins after losing to Wits.
