Telkom Knockout last-16 Orlando Pirates Polokwane City

Orlando Pirates returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Polokwane City in the last-16 of the Telkom Knockout.

Thabo Qalinge scored a 68th minute decider after his teammate Issa Sarr cancelled out debutant Tokelo Langa's opener before the break at Orlando Stadium.

In the other cup tie on Sunday, Ajax Cape Town gained revenge over Mpumalanga Black Aces with a 3-0 scoreline at Cape Town Stadium.

Bucs and Ajax join Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu, Mamelodi Sundowns, holders Platinum Stars, SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits in the quarter-finals of the competition, with the PSL to decide the next match-ups via a draw on Monday.

Pirates, who had lost their previous two games, started their duel brightly, as Lehlohonolo Majoro's ninth minute strike drew a sharp save from Dino Visser. Majoro looked lively as he sought to make the most of being handed a start ahead of Kermit Erasmus.

City, however, took a surprise lead in the 15th minute, as Langa's powerful shot beat Senzo Meyiwa after taking a big deflection off Sarr.

Sarr, though, equalised three minutes later with a glancing header from a Mpho Makola corner.

The hosts threatened early into the second stanza, as Makola dragged a shot wide following some neat build-up play.

Makola came close again in the 58th minute, but couldn't keep his free header down off a cross from overlapping left-back Patrick Phungwayo, who was in the team for the suspended Thabo Matlaba.

Man of the Match Phungwayo swung in another decent cross just past the hour-mark, but a straining Majoro was likewise unable to steer his header on target.

Qalinge, however, later settled affairs with a first-time shot in the box after being teed up by Majoro.

Did you have to paint all Chiefs fans with the same brush? C'mon, you can do better than that

@Bongz # Bucs I was also at the stadium and do not appreciate some of our members blaming players. My take is, It is not only us who are going through a rough patch but the boys and the coach as well. It is in times like these that we need to fully rally behind the team. This negative energy will only worsen things. Though i respect your comments, please member, refrain from using words like "useless" to world class players like Aaaaaceee. it is not our style to insult players. do not worry, we will get through this..... :-)

You are partly right. But its also true that Qalinge gave away a lot of balls and other guys also were just giving away the balls. No aggression on one on one. Klate earned a yellow card unnecessarily hardly 10 minutes on the pitch as substitute. Generally midfield patheic and no supply to Major. With that performance, we are not going far. Any effective team would beat us. Polokwane was just toot weak though they showed fighting spirit

Which game were you watchig. That narrow escape of empty performance. Dont fool yourself or the team. That performance will only beat a disorganized Polokwana city. We need something far better to compete, let alone winning. No more to empty praises. Sarr scored a great goal, sure. Qaling socred but wasted a lot of balls. Major tried but there was no supply. Midfield very poor.

Some of Pirates fans r confused. When the team plays well nd fail to deliver results, they complain. Now the team has won and gave them what them what's important and they r still complaining. Nc NC NC nc .......shameful.

Just be brave and say when the team plays very bad and get results they complain. Say it. What you need to accept is that there sre just unaaceptable levels of poor performance whether its a win or. Againt Chiefs, we played well as a team and we were let down by isolated individuals. Against Chippa we were hammered by a side that played better than us, though we played better as well. And against Polokwane the team was so poor. Even Polokwane was so poor. Otherwise it could have finished us

You are right. Remember we idiolize these guys and it is is difficult to name those fans worship when they are out. You are 100% right

Remember, these players of ours we idiolize, they play nonesense and we cannot even say a word cos as fans we are just loud empty vessel, praising some players for failing. Your are right, Ace has been disappointing big time. The question is, why is he always in the starting line up
