Free State Stars coach Tom Sainfiet lamented injuries to two of his key players after his team lost 1-0 to SuperSport United in the Telkom Knockout on Saturday.
Stars lost both Paulus Masehe and Sibusiso Mthethwa in the second half due to injuries, with Mthethwa being rushed to hospital with a broken shoulder.
"The sad part was when have to change in two minutes' time two players with injuries, my captain Paulus Masehe who is very important player in the team with his experience and fighting spirit, we had to lose him due to a hamstring injury and also Mthethwa with a broken shoulder and this limited our chance to make changes," said Saintfiet.
"I am disappointed, we wanted to achieve something from the cup today. I think we did quite well against a strong SuperSport United who won 3-1 against Platinum Stars and 3-0 last week and we showed that we are able to compete with them," he added.
Mthethwa could miss the rest of the season after dislocating and breaking his shoulder at Lucas Moripe Stadium. The player was stretchered off and taken to hospital after he collided with United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.
