Polokwane City vs Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 28 September 2014 Time: 15:11

Mamelodi Sundowns handed Polokwane City a 3-0 whipping as Cuthbert Malajila, Themba Zwane and Teko Modise all got on the scoresheet at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

Polokwane City got off to a bright start as they put pressure on the Sundowns defence in the opening exchanges, but the hosts were unable to really test Kennedy Mweene.

Sundowns then got into their groove and started to spread the ball around with intent as the momentum shifted in the visitors’ favour.

The defending Absa Premiership champions were duly rewarded after a great run from Teko Modise, who beat three defender and found Elias Pelembe, and the winger unselfishly passed the ball for Malajila inside the area, who slotted home to hand the Brazilians the lead in the 35th minute.

Sundowns enjoyed most of the possession as they looked to keep their lead going into the half-time break.

The second half was all Sundowns, as the Tshwane-side dominated in terms of possession and chances created, with a number of shots coming in from range.

Themba Zwane made it 2-0 to ‘Downs right on the hour mark, after Malajila put him through on goal with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Teko Modise then added the third and final goal with a composed finish, after a brilliant aerial pass from Hlompho Kekana, in the 73rd minute.

Mosimane then looked to close the back door as Asavela Mbekile was brought on to replace Zwane, and Bafana Ba Style deservedly walked away with the three points.

The loss for Polokwane City is their fifth straight defeat and remain in 15th place on the Absa Premiership standings, while the victory sees Mamelodi Sundowns move into fourth place behind Bidvest Wits.

It's like Brazil, they thought they were the best after beating small teams, until they met Germany and netherlands and realised that they are actually weak.

@ shlalo wezihlano ur not obliged to say Downs outfit is nice, we will always see things differently or maybe your blinded with hatred. In my humble plea stick to the topic at hand. What a game is was i was impressed by/with Themba Zwane but the defence didn't convince me.

Buc-champ 14 True man. You analyzed the game without bias. The first 30 minutes I was angry that our defense was caught in sixies and sevens. I still think Pitso needs to drill it even more. It was easy for PLK City to penetrate the defence with few one touches at high speed. This is the main weakness of sundowns. I was impressed by teko's hunger and determination. It was a great game indeed.

That's your mentality, no one mentioned anything abt wealth, for your information, I support Sundowns because of their winning mentality (6 times PSL Champs) and the fact that I think they play the most entertaining football, remember 24-0 ? That's what I am talking abt, when u are a big team you must show that you are a big team, don't win 2-0 with small teams, like your team claims to be big.
