Ghana is set to feature a second string team when they play Bafana Bafana in an international friendly in Bloemfontein tomorrow.

The Black Stars arrived in Johannesburg yesterday without most of their regular overseas-based players.

Notable absentees in their squad are the England-based duo of goalkeeper Richard Kingson and defender John Pantsil along with Italy-based midfielder Sulley Muntari and striker Asamoah Gyan.

Other absentees in the four- times African Cup of Nations champions include Andre Ayew, John Mensah, Quincy Owusu-Abeyie and Junior Agogo.

Skipper Stephen Appiah remains the most capped player in the Ghana senior squad that touched down at the OR Tambo International airport.

Kaizer Chiefs defender Jonathan Quartey is also included in the Ghanaian squad to face Bafana Bafana.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana has managed to retain all their regular and overseas-based players including Aaron Mokoena, Benni McCarthy, Siyabonga Nkosi, Bryce Moon and Nasief Morris.

My current commment may sound irrelevant to the story above but I wish to say that, while South Africa is busy preparing itself for the 2010 World cup I take issue with the fact that through qualifications to the next phase of AFCON and World cup COSAFA, our regional soccer body, has only produced Zambia by distinction, Mozambique and Malawi through best runners up and Angola by default of being the AFCON hosts. I'm a bit concerned that our regional body seems not to be getting things right, as if they ever got them right any way. For quite some time we've only moved one step forward, that is to reduce the number of goals that the North African teams score when they beat us, we dont get 7-0 beatings but we still get beaten anyway. I therefore would like to call upon Bo-Rre Mamelodi and collegues to assist the regional soccer associations in moving to a different pedestal, we are tired of supporting North African teams at major soccer tournaments, it happened at almost all World Cups and Olympics, I think they now have to tell this whole region what they intend doing from now on otherwise we have to engage the North African guys to come for our rescue. Countries like Zimbabwe, Angola and South Africa are just too big to be beaten by bo-Rwanda and the like. I stand to be corrected my fellow Africans!

S.A. should start to treat every match as cup game coz if we are failing to beat second teams like Ghana what about the likes of Brazil, Italy...we have to set out sight higher and challenge better teams than these second teams coz we are not going to gain any thing from these second team....

This goes to show that S. A. is nothing anymore in terms of World football. Even if they can win the game, they are still not playing the best sides in the world. If Ghana can take a second string side to S. A., what about the likes of Brazil, Italy, England etc. It means they will sent their under 21 sides to play us. We are nothing more than a joke and our team is gonna embarase us come 2010. Patriosm se foet.

I dont care about Essien as he will do nothing special except defending & rough tackling, i want to see flair, thats what Appiah can provide, to me he is the best african midfielder after JJ Okocha, followed by Aboutrika.

Fire the bafana coach. for me we allways talk of experience santana have none when it comes to national teams. he is here to learn. we are sendind our team with a zero experience coach to compete with teams lead by proffessors of footbal. don blame the players. they are selected, they don select themselves.

What's the use of inviting these bit National teams and pay lots of money whereas they bring the second string squad.
This is an insult to South Africa,the reason why they invited ghana is bcos they wanted to test they strength against the best,I guess SAFA got it all wrong when they thought failing to qualify for AFCON may bear good fruits.It seems like a disaster to me

People must stop listening to Reporters and think for themselves. Yes this Ghana team is without most of their star players BUT this B team as you call it is very useful and competitive. If you search on most of these Ghanian team members you will find that most were in the squad for AFCON 2008. Also some of the players play in Europe or are on the verge of joining a European team. The SA squad is also a big team and Santana can use our B team against this team. If our A team played against Guinea then this will be our B team against Ghana B.

This team never started against Guinea so can be classed as a B team. Remember Santana needs to give everybody a run, so why not this squad? Nobody releases how big and established the Bafana squad is getting. Ghana is hoping to do the same and find depth in the squad. Dont be fooled this will be a competitive game.

For sure , who in his right mind would bring a full strength squad to play Bafazi Bafazi in a friendly! This nonsense about Safa braging that "we have lined friendly games against the best .....". Forget it,we will be fighting it against development players.We would be luck if some of the "best" bring in their under-23s.
