Kaizer Chiefs vs University of Pretoria

Posted: 13 September 2014 Time: 14:35

Kaizer Chiefs welcome University of Pretoria to the FNB Stadium for their Absa Premiership clash, kick-off at 15h00.

Despite a number of changes to the side, Kaizer Chiefs showed confidence from the start as they passed the ball around with Katsande and Letsholoyane controlling proceedings in the midfield early on.

A number of attempts going forward yielded little success as the AmaTuks defence did well at clearing their lines to block out the Amakhosi’s promising attacks.

They could do little though to deny Letsholoyane as he grabbed the opening goal in the 18th minute after unleashing a powerful low shot to beat Tuks goalkeeper Washington Arubi to his left.

Chiefs dominated play from then onward as they continued to spread play and create numerous chances on goal, but were held out by a resolute Tukkies defense, which allowed the teams to go into the break with only a 1-0 lead to The Glamour Boys.

AmaTuks got the second half off to a flying start as they equalised from the penalty spot in the 49th minute through Geoffrey Massa, after goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo came off his line early but was adjudged to have fouled Nyondo in the Chiefs 18-yard area.

Momentum continued in Tuks’ favour as Ntombayithethe had a good chance to give his side the lead, but Khuzwayo was up to the task and made a quick reaction save to keep the scores level at 1-1.

A double sub from Baxter saw Maluleka and Masango replace Nkosi and Tshabalala respectively, pays off instantly as Yeye Letsholonyane grabbed the lead for the second time in the match after scrappy work from the Tuks defense.

The international break looked to have taken its effect on the two sides, after a two-week break in domestic competitive action, with play slowing down a considerable amount and Amakhosi looking wary ahead of the upcoming MTN 8 Final against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.

A late counter from Chiefs resulted in the ball landing for substitute Masango, but his curling effort from the edge of the box went wide of Arubi’s goal.

Baxter would be pleased to see his side maintain their position on top of the Absa Premiership standings as well as stretch their winning streak to six matches in the 2014/15 campaign.

Then they say we don't have depth? We don't need 78 players to make up a team.

Yes u can change half of the team, maybe u with your coaching credentials can't. Baxter is showing u stupid Zebra that he has plan B and C...and still win games. Stick to your profession and leave soccer to their experts.

This is so frustrating. No fluidity, quick interchange in the final 3rd. We have become static and predictable as we were over the last season..... Haykhona Stuart and his Favouritism are gonna kill the team

I understand why Masango and Mathoho are on the bench, getting a rest. But why is Maluleka and Lebese on the bench? And why nkosi over karuru or one of the youngsters?
