Dikwena, Celtic in stalemate

Platinum Stars and Bloemfontein Celtic played out to a goalless draw in Rustenburg this afternoon.
It was not the most entertaining 90 minutes as the game at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, ending 0-0 following very few chances in front of goal, with the biggest talking point being Celtic coach Ernst Middendorp being sent to the stands for dissent.
The opening 45 minutes was certainly more entertaining that the second, with the first shot on goal coming in the second minute courtesy of Lucky Nguzana, but he was denied by Kabelo Dambe.
The next chance came in the 17th minute when Vuyani Ntanga tested Dambe’s fingertips, but again he was up to the challenge and made a fine save.
Nguzana came close to opening the scoring in the 37th minute, but he saw his long-range shot shave the wrong side of the post as the half ended 0-0.
Phunya Sele Sele started the better of the two teams in the second 45, but their pressure quickly faded.
In fact, it was a dismal second half with both side’s struggling to hold onto the ball for sustained periods of play.
Chances on goal were few and far between and in the end neither side could find the breakthough as the spoils were shared.
The result, combined with Mamelodi Sundowns’ 2-0 win over AmaZulu, saw both teams dropping a spot on the table.
Stars are now ninth with seven points from five games, while Celtic are a place below them in tenth place with six points.
