PSL Absa Premiership Match Report: Platinum Stars 0-2 Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 27 August 2014 Time: 21:46

Kaizer Chiefs went back to the top of the table after a convincing 2-0 victory over Platinum Stars on Wednesday night.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane and George Lebese were on target for Amakhosi as Stuart Baxter's side registered their third victory over Dikwena in the space of 11 days.

Chiefs were full value for their win and could have added to the scoreline through George Maluleka, who had a couple of good chances.

'Yeye' opened the scoring in the 20th minute after a sweet short-passing move as he received the ball back from Mandla Masango on the edge of the area, showed quick feet to make space for the shot and curled it beautifully over Kabelo Dambe.

Lebese doubled the lead in the 33rd minute after a fortunate break as the ball ricocheted between two Stars defenders before falling into his path, clean through, and he buried it into the bottom-left corner with his right foot.

Maluleka forced a great save from Dambe at the start of the second half after turning smartly to beat his marker, driving towards goal and unleashing a swerving, dipping effort from range.

Stars made a game of it in the second half and had chances through headers from Patrick Malokase and Lucky Nguzana, but could not convert.

Maluleka came close with a direct free-kick late on and could also have extended his side's lead seven minutes from time but could not squeeze his shot past Dambe's near post from a tight angle.

Ambitious_Khosi Clearly, when they catch a wake up, we would already have won the league.

My 2 cents to coach Freese on why the first goal happened is that his players was afraid/or instructed not to give away setpieces in front of the penalty area coz of the danger that Maluleka presents in that area. Not knowing, if you leave midfielders with the skill that Chiefs players has alone, it could also lead to devastation.
