MTN8 semi-final: Orlando Pirates vs Bidvest Wits

Posted: 23 August 2014 Time: 20:08

Orlando Pirates cruised through to the MTN8 Final 5-1 on aggregate after a 3-1 victory over Bidvest Wits at Orlando Stadium.

Leading 2-0 after the first leg, the Buccaneers added three more goals including a brace from Lehlohonolo Majoro to set up their fifth consecutive cup final appearance.

Kermit Erasmus got the ball rolling in the 53rd minute with a fantastic solo goal. Thabo Matlaba released the forward on the counter, and Erasmus ran at Wits new boy Kees Kwakman at pace, going this way and that, beating his man and then firing low into the bottom-left corner, 1-0.

Wits pulled one back in the 77th minute when Rooi Mahamutsa brought down Getaneh Kebede in the area. The Ethiopian stepped up to take the spot-kick himself and buried it into the bottom-left corner, 1-1.

But then came the Majoro show. Sifiso Myeni's cushion header towards the penalty spot found Majoro in space, and the striker unleashed a sweet and stunning volley into the top-left corner to open his Pirates account in fine style.

Majoro did not stop there. In stoppage time he showed his quality after bending a perfectly timed run to stay onside to receive Myeni's through-ball before taking one touch and chipping the ball over the advancing Jackson Mabokgwane, 3-1, game over.

Majoro only played about 30 minutes but was awarded the MTN Man of the Match award, such were the quality of his goals.

The Students will feel aggrieved at the final scoreline as they missed several chances before Pirates opened the scoring.

Hey ama-Bucaneer a mhle, It seems the media has started their campaign of causing a rift between our coach and the (Magic Goal) Majoro. The strategy there is to use him as a Super-Sub. So just like Miyeni look how many chances he created since he was used as a sub. Sometimes our players are being overused instead of being rested and used to change the game. I hope the academic Majoro will see what the media is trying to do, I already smell a rat. With Pirates all players are quality, so like VV has indicated, everyone that has been given a chance must grab it with both hands to encourage competition. I bet u look at Pungwayo, when he get a chance here, Matlaba knows about it. I remember the day Pungwayo got injured, Matlaba scored on his first game after coming back. To you the Major, keep on pumping those goals until Zebras turned from Yellow and black to real White and Black.

jay the citizen Like I said earlier, some players need to be rested, before the starting eleven goes to their heads.
