Amajita fired up for Botswana clash

Posted: 6 October 2008 Time: 11:19

After beating Lesotho 2-0 in an international friendly in Kimberley on Saturday, Amajita are now fired up and ready to face Botswana in the African Youth Championship qualifier second leg this weekend.

South Africa played to a 1-1 draw against Botswana in the first leg game played in Gaborone a fortnight ago.

Amajita manager Winston Marumo tells that their victory over Lesotho has given them much needed confidence to advance to the next stage of the tournament.

Marumo also announced the return of Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mandla Masango, former Under-17 captain Ramahlwe Mphahlele and on-form striker Ace Bhengu of Moroka Swallows.

“Our plan is to go to the Northern Cape early so that the boys can familiarise themselves with the place and conditions on the pitch.

“We are expecting Masango, Mphahlele and Bhengu to arrive in camp today. They all missed the first leg in Gaborone due to club commitments,” he added.

Carara Kicks striker Nkani Zwane scored the two goals that helped South Africa beat Lesotho on Saturday.

Amajita played exceptionally well, hopefully some of these boys might see some action in 2010. We must remember that continuity is very important, we dont want to be making the same mistake as with our Amagluglug boys that played in the Olympics and beat Brazil, what happened to all those boys. There was a you man that played on Saterday that actually reminded me of the olympic "Team that beat Brazil". He definitely is one for the future not just because his brother plays professional soccer or his name can be linked to our all time top goal scorer, but because of the control, vision and skill the boy has. Watch out for "Egan McCarthy", brother of Fabian McCarthy the former Amagluglug and Bafana star who now plays for Swallows. From what I gathered from people also watching the game, this boy currently plays for a team called Anderlecht (Vryburg) who plays their soccer in the Vodacom league. Good luck boy and keep up the good work, ones you get a little bit more exposure, dont think it would be long before one of the teams in the PSL will sign you.

Well done boys, bring on Botswana. The combination of Zwane, Masango, Mphahlele and Bhengu are one to watch, my prediction a 3-0 win for Amajita. Who is this Egan McCarthy, does anyone perhaps know?
