PSL Match Report: Platinum Stars 2-1 Free State Stars

Posted: 13 August 2014 Time: 22:16

Platinum Stars ran out 2-1 winners over Free State Stars and condemned them to the bottom of the Absa Premiership log on Wednesday night.

A brace from Ndumiso Mabena saw Platinum Stars come from a goal behind to beat the Ea Lla Koto at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

The win was Dikwena’s first of the season, while the loss for Free State was their second in two matches and leaves them as the only team in the League yet to collect a point.

Platinum Stars moved up to ninth place on the table with their first three points.

It was the worst possible start to the game for the home side who found themselves a goal behind after a Moeketsi Sekola goal five minutes in, 1-0.

Nonetheless, Platinum Stars picked themselves up and began mounting a comeback that saw the home side playing some beautiful passing football, but they proved to be wasteful in front of goal.

That was until the 26th minute when Mabena found the equaliser after a sustained period of play from Dikwena to take the match into the break locked at 1-1.

Platinum Stars continued to dominate matters after the break and took the lead in the 53rd minute thanks to a second goal from Mabena. The Dikwena striker did well to head home a corner-kick, 2-1.

Free State tried to find their way back into the game, but were unable to do so.

HOME: Platinum Stars

Coach: Allan Freese
Formation: four two three one

AWAY: Free State Stars

Coach: Tom Saintfiet
Formation: four four two

Just a quick question, what was his problem from OP? he didn't get a fair chance or he was not good enough for OP.  Wow! a performance from him at PS.

Why not field an outright striker coz Erasmus is good as a 2nd striker not a gunman,we should play a 4 3 3 formation not to congest the midfield

shihambahamba mboweni I also dont see any reason why substitutes come 5 min to go i mean really? Majoro Should have come on 15 min into second half. Erasmus was finished just after the 50th min. I dont even know why Makola finishes 90min. Bibo and Isa play same role why starting with both of them at the same time. Cry my beloved Bucs !!!!!!!

Good for him and we happy for him is just that he could not make it at bucs though he was given more than enough chances.Up the bucs.

Is this the same Mabena who failed to kick the ball into the open net when Chibuku FC were playing Celtics in Bloem while they were leading 3-1 and later Celtic equalised in the dying minutes and ended up winning the game ?

For me this boy remains a cow. Let's see what he can offer against the Mighty Amakhosi on weekend.

Tzozo Khosi you don't turn professional if there was no talent. Mabena did not have a good time at Pirates not because of anybody's fault but he could not do it with Pirates it happen with live. What you are suppose to saying is  "good turn of fortune and I wish success wherever you go". Mabena good luck to you mfana. As khosi I will say come and give you best against Chiefs and enjoy yourself. I know we are going to win and tough luck to you but I will not begrudge  you if you have blinder against us.
