PSL Match Report: Platinum Stars 2-1 Free State Stars

Posted: 13 August 2014 Time: 22:16

Platinum Stars ran out 2-1 winners over Free State Stars and condemned them to the bottom of the Absa Premiership log on Wednesday night.

A brace from Ndumiso Mabena saw Platinum Stars come from a goal behind to beat the Ea Lla Koto at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
The win was Dikwena’s first of the season, while the loss for Free State was their second in two matches and leaves them as the only team in the League yet to collect a point.
Platinum Stars moved up to ninth place on the table with their first three points.
It was the worst possible start to the game for the home side who found themselves a goal behind after a Moeketsi Sekola goal five minutes in, 1-0.
Nonetheless, Platinum Stars picked themselves up and began mounting a comeback that saw the home side playing some beautiful passing football, but they proved to be wasteful in front of goal.
That was until the 26th minute when Mabena found the equaliser after a sustained period of play from Dikwena to take the match into the break locked at 1-1.
Platinum Stars continued to dominate matters after the break and took the lead in the 53rd minute thanks to a second goal from Mabena. The Dikwena striker did well to head home a corner-kick, 2-1.
Free State tried to find their way back into the game, but were unable to do so.

While many criticised me here saying if I like mabena so much I should take him to downs but I just watched one match where he started and saw he isn't bad as he's made out to be as he got a standing ovation when substituted ko orlando.some will say its too early in the season but he has shown that when he's on form he can hurt teams.many players can be not at their best especially when they are fringe players, they cannot be expected to perform miracles once they get the last minutes of the game and some players are not famous teams players.good luck to mabena.

I am still very much okay with the fact that he left Orlando Pirates.

FACT: Oupa Manyisa is the leading goal scorer and Senzo Meyiwa is the leading conceding goalkeeper in the PSL.It's clear where our downfall is at Pirates.Meyiwa and Jele are on a comfort zone and that also exposes Rooi and Sangweni in central defance. This tactic by VV of playing with one striker and congesting the middle field is also not assisting as it limits spaces for players to run into.the sooner we adress all these minor issues-The better.UP THE BUCS!

Change is good. From being useless at Bucs now a hero at Stars. Keep you head down boy you don't have to prove anything to any1

mountainking the system at Pirates does not allow strikers to score mostly. Its more based on passing than scoring but at P Stars,he has the freedom to miss many chances but with no pressure.

Makola clueless????? thats not true bhakaniya.

Nothing wrong with the system Bhakaniya we just not scoring goals. Mayiwa was at fault for the first goal and bad defending for the second goal other than that Celtics was not  a threat.

shihambahamba mboweni Agreed. I watched the Mighty Bucs for the 1st time and could see that Jele wasn't perfoming well and that the lone striker system doesn't seem to suit us. I think we need a striker who can hold the ball e.g Bacela while another striker make runs into spaces. I also have a problem with Kermit always blasting the ball even when he just need to place it.

I hear you mriyo.he's a striker at stars and when I saw him starting at bucs he was a cum striker and got a standing ovation in one match.in summary he is a good player cause what I saw was good passing and dribbling and not a cow some of your supporters said he was.he wasn't scoring at bucs as a striker I surmise but isn't this a mzansi problem to warrant people to say because he couldn't finish he's a cow.I thought you are a cow when all the basics you can master but his basics are fine.
