Platinum Stars striker Mabena: I have no point to prove

Posted: 7 August 2014 Time: 08:56

Ndumiso Mabena has brushed off his goal on debut for Platinum Stars in the 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns, saying he does "not have anything to prove to anyone".

Mabena's strike helped knock the Premiership champions out of the MTN8 last weekend.

And while the forward endured a mediocre campaign with Orlando Pirates last term, he insists he does not feel under pressure to reassert his worth at Dikwena.

“I really do not have anything to prove to anyone,” Mabena tells KickOff.com.

“All I want is to help the club to win as many matches as possible and retain the trophies that they won last season.”

Asked how many League goals he would like to score this season, Mabena responds: “I am not really setting targets for myself as a striker, in terms of the number of goals I would like to score.

“The important thing is for us to win matches. If I can help the club to win then I will be happy. This is more important than scoring goals and setting personal targets.

“I was inspired to join Platinum Stars by the desire to help the club achieve more success.”

Mabena adds that the friendly atmosphere among his teammates has helped him to settle in Rustenburg.

Stars, the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout holders, will play their opening Premiership match against Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

You do Sgeji.

Just score against KC, you will be redeemed. They are the ones that were calling a defensive striker.

Great Rhino ha ha ah, It's an open secret that the Zimbabwe international wants to play in Europe, and will return to Chiefs only when he feels he has failed to secure a move back to Europe.

I use to believe that jersey #10 is only for great/good players (even le ko kasi), but this days, COWS like Ndumiso Mabena, Siyabonga Nkosi, Benson Mhlongo(even though he has his reason) wear it.
