Ajax Cape Town midfielder Franklin Cale has returned to training but will miss the early-season action as he remains at least a month away from playing competitive football.
Cale played just two games for Ajax early last season but a nagging knee injury forced him to miss the rest of the campaign after he underwent surgery to correct the problem.
According to Ajax coach Roger de Sa, the 31-year-old is back at full training but not yet ready to take to the field on matchdays.
“He [Cale] is back at training with the rest of the team and getting back now but is not 100 percent fit as yet,” De Sa tells KickOff.com.
“He missed out on a lot of football last season so there is still work that needs to be done on him as he has gained weight. I would say he is some four to six weeks away from getting back to normal and being able to play in a competitive match again.
“What is encouraging is that the actual injury has healed now but we are now working on his body as he is still a bit heavy after missing out on all that football last season. Once the body gets back to shape, playing football will not be a problem for him,” explains De Sa.
Cale will definitely miss the early part of the season and is expected to only start playing next month.
