Best & Worst of the Weekend

The 2014/15 season officially kicked off this weekend with some stunning performances from the Soweto giants, as well as MTN8 champions Platinum Stars. Here are the best and worst …
Goal of the Weekend: Kermit Erasmus showed great composure in chipping Ronwen Williams for Orlando Pirates’ second goal, but without a doubt the best goal was scored by the much-maligned Kingston Nkhatha. He flicked the ball up with his first touch and volleyed in off the underside of the crossbar for his second – from 25 metres out!
Player of the Week: Thandani Ntshumayelo was named Man of the Match, but for our money Thabo Matlaba was the best player on show. A livewire for Bucs as he bombed down the left all game, constantly creating problems for the SuperSport defence. He also set up the opening goal for Daine Klate which set Pirates on the way to victory.
A week to forget for: Amid all the hype of their pre-season signings, a lot more was expected of Mpumalanga Black Aces, but a woeful defensive display cost them big time. However, this ‘award’ must go to Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Tebogo Langerman, who was at fault for both Platinum Stars’ goals. Even Pitso Mosimane was unforgiving on the player’s performance in the post-match interviews.
Words of the Week: “You can go and write that we parked the bus – yes, we did, but the strategy was to park it with a driver and go forward quickly. You must also write that the wheels were not taken off and the bus also moved forward a little bit.” Dikwena coach Allan Freese after their victory against Mamelodi Sundowns
