Former Kaizer Chiefs left-back Keegan Ritchie says while he is not at liberty to disclose why he parted ways with Czech side Slavia Prague, he “enjoyed” his spell overseas.
The former Moroka Swallows and Chiefs full-back is back in the country looking for a new team just a few months after he moved to the European country.
Critics have subsequently ranked him in a list of local stars who have secured overseas moves only to return after finding the going tough, while it has previously been speculated that his side was facing financial problems.
“Unfortunately I cannot disclose the reasons why I left. I am not allowed. It is a confidential matter,” the 24-year-old tells KickOff.com.
“My stint there went well and I enjoyed myself. I played in five consecutive games last season but unfortunately got injured. I was definitely part of the team’s plans as they liked the way I played.”
Ritchie has started a trial with Bloemfontein Celtic, where he is hoping to convince coach Ernst Middendorp to hand him a fresh chance in the PSL, and he has the mentor’s backing.
“Keegan is a good and experienced player and it is nonsense to say he is on a trial. We will assess him. He does not have to prove anything to anyone,” says Middendorp, who used the player at the weekend as his side won the inaugural Charity Showdown.
