Buhle Mkhwanazi says his decision to join Bidvest Wits over Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns was influenced by him feeling more needed by the Students than at the other clubs.
The 24-year-old signed with Wits from University of Pretoria last week after huge interest in his services from Bucs and Downs as well.
"This team is ambitious, you could see they did well last season," Mkhwanazi told reporters.
"They finished in the top three. It is a team that is hungry for success. I believe that I am really needed in this team that’s why I chose them over the other teams that wanted me. This is the right place for me and I will grow with this team."
The Clever Boys enjoyed their best defensive record last season by only letting in 20 goals, but the Bafana Bafana defender is eager to better that mark.
"Obviously the guys from last season conceded 20 goals, we have to make sure that we better that record."
Mkhwanazi is also pleased with how his career has gone, being a national team player and former captain of AmaTuks.
"It has been a good career but there were some challenges at the start. But now I am reaping the hard work that I put in.
"I am happy with everything that has happened in my career. I started at a big club, Sundowns. Game-time was limited.
"It wasn’t easy for me, the competition was too high. I wasn’t mature at that stage. I got it difficult, being sent on loan brought back and then sent on loan again but then I managed to be where I am now."
