Port Elizabeth-based side Chippa United have confirmed the signing of Nigerian midfielder Ugonna Uzochukwu.
The 21-year-old was signed from Enugu Rangers, though the length of the contract has not been disclosed.
Uzochukwu was part of Nigeria’s squad that finished third in the 2014 Chan tournament that was hosted by South Africa earlier this year. He started all but one match for the Super Eagles during Chan.
He came off the bench in Nigeria’s 3-1 win over Bafana Bafana and fouled Katlego Mashego in the box for Bafana’s penalty that was converted by Bernard Parker late in the game.
Meanwhile, Chippa have also confirmed the signing of Thamsanqa Sangweni from Mamelodi Sundowns, though the Brazilians are yet to confirm the deal.
The Chilli Boys have been one of the busiest teams in the transfer market having signed over 10 players for the new season.
The recruits are: Uzochukwu, Sangweni, Veli Mothwa, David Zulu, Mpho Mvelase, Eric Chipeta, Manti Moholo, Siyabonga Zulu, Joseph Molongoane, Bheki Nzunga and William Twala.
However, a dispute looms over Mothwa who, technically, belongs to Polokwane City after the PSL’s Dispute Resolution Chamber ruled in City’s favour in a matter involving Baroka.
Baroka, who sold Mothwa to Chippa, are now contesting the SAFA Appeals Board’s decision to uphold the DRC outcome.
