Sundowns keen to keep Chippa United targets

Posted: 2 July 2014 Time: 12:50

Mamelodi Sundowns are looking to hang onto the trio of youngsters who are wanted by Chippa United on a permanent deal.

Doctor Mampuru, Siyabulela Shai and Walter Maponyane were all on loan with the Chilli Boys last season and the club is looking to keep then on a permanent deal.

Currently talks are still ongoing. Mampuru is likely to go on a permanent deal as his contract with Sundowns has expired but the Brazilians have a one-year option on his contract.

However, Sundowns communications co-ordinator Thulani Thuswa says the Chloorkop-based side won't just let go of the players on permanent deals. Both Mampuru and Shai are under the age of 23, while Maponyane is 26.

Sundowns management feels that the boys are still too young for them to be let go to another team on a permanent deal.

“The players they had last season are young players like Shai and we won't just give them away. Maybe we are going to loan them but not give them away,” he says.

Sundowns are currently camping in Polokwane for the week. Once the team returns from Polokwane it is expected that all contract talks and who will be going on loan will be decided.

sherrief So loaning players out is killing careers?? You're just bored neh? Rushing to be the 1st to comment no matter how illogical your comment might be, as long as you can be the 1st to comment neh? Pathetic! Ever heard of "think before you ink"? I doubt. Anyway, have a great day ahead.

Don't pay attention to the mumblings of a fool. These are baseless accusations. These deals benefit the players more than Sundowns. Big ups to Motsepe for that.

SA teams dont believe in grooming young players. average age that is acceptable is 26, we will never improve as a country if we don't give young players a chance. Look at Chiefs, they have a left back Mtsweni and he is young and a good player but they went and bought a left back that is 24 years old, that in football is not young anymore. Whoever we hire to be sa coach, he will suffer because when times are rough for bafana they call guys whom are 30 years and older. I don't understand the thinking behind what the teams are doing, its a disgrace this and i am happy we are losing everything as bafana. take the u20 and build a team for the next coming world cup

The boys must either play or be loaned out,we can't sell young talent in the psl market because we won't get the right amount.
