Maritzburg United are expected to wrap up the loan moves of Abel Mabaso and Kwanda Mngonyama from Mamelodi Sundowns in the next 24 hours.
The defensive duo has been in talks with Maritzburg after Rheece Evans and Mario Booysen moved in the opposite direction on permanent deals, and club chairman Farouk Kadodia says that an agreement with both players has been reached.
“We are waiting for the players’ agents to finalise matters with Sundowns, but in principle the players have been signed,” Kadodia tells KickOff.com.
The news on Sundowns striker Rodney Ramagalela was less promising. Initially made available for a potential loan move to the Team of Choice, Ramagalela could now be kept on by Sundowns, with Kadodia saying that he expects to know more over the course of the week.
“It seems that Pitso [Mosimane] needs a bit more time to make up his mind, and if he decides that he wants to keep the player then we will have to look elsewhere,” said Kadodia.
The acquisitions of Mabaso and Mngonyama would slightly ease concerns at Harry Gwala Stadium amidst a player exodus that has brought about a defensive crisis ahead of the new campaign.
But with strikers Mohammed Yakubu and Orlando Smeekes no longer United players, there are also concerns over who will do the business at the other end of the park.
Kadodia yesterday poured cold water on rumours that he was in the market to bring Namibian winger/striker Rudolf Bester back to Maritzburg.
“At this stage I have not entered into any discussions with Bester and it is all speculation,” he said
