Steve Barker on Raymond Monama

Posted: 9 June 2014 Time: 08:25

University of Pretoria coach Steve Barker says he will soon be in a better position to know whether Raymond Monama will extend his stay with the club beyond the just ended season.

Barker tells KickOff.com that he is pinning his hopes on Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane, who is set to decide the fate of the former Black Leopards player.

Monama, who was loaned by the Brazilians to AmaTuks for the 2013/14 season, impressed Barker, who is now looking to build his midfield department around the player.

“We would have preferred to secure him [Monama] permanently, but we cannot afford him,” Barker tells KickOff.com

“We would like to have him on loan for the upcoming season and this is the request that we have put in. We are waiting for Sundowns to respond and the picture should be clearer in the coming weeks.”

Barker says he is also targeting a number of other Sundowns players who might not be in Mosimane’s plans.

“If I could I would get half of the Sundowns squad,” Barker chuckles. “We are not only interested in Raymond. There are a number of other players as well. I cannot get into details regarding this at the moment.”

Among the players that Barker could be targeting are Xolani Mdaki, Therlo Moosa, Samuel Julies, Method Mwanjali and Themba Zwane, who have all returned to the club after completing their loan spells at various clubs.

Good move Barker, keep him but let Downs pay him, a loan move benefits you, clever indeed, let those who have money waste it while you benefit

Aii, Sundowns must just give this guy away man... he should be the one to decide on his stipent and so forth, but we need him not at the 6 times PSL champs... let him venture elsewhere please. we have enough players to make 4 teams already man haww... We cant have every player that can kick a ball man... Motsepe must just buy PSL as a whole and stop this, its not fun anymore

And here i was thinking Raymond Monama was still at black leopards. I'm so disappointed in my self, just like i'm still disappointed with Kaizer Chiefs.

If Sundowns give Monama a clearance then he will play against them which Sundowns don't want.

Captain 1

Against Sundowns they will play their reserve side so as to donate six points for Sundowns to win the league again. Remember some teams are in the league just to get the  PSL grant. They don't care about winning anything. So as long as the Sundowns players will keep them in the league its ok with them. After all they will not be paying salaries to those Sundowns players. And every time the team beats Chiefs and Pirates AmaTuks players will get bonuses from Sundowns.

The reason they bought him and many others in the first place is to loan them to AmaTuks and other cubs so that when Sundowns play against them the other teams field some fringe players for Sundowns to stand a good chance of winning the league.
