Bidvest Wits release six players Mwaruwari Hoffman Wolff Koapeng Mngomezulu Lubelo

Posted: 2 June 2014 Time: 12:05

Bidvest Wits have revealed that they will not be renewing the contracts of six players, including youth international goalkeeper Steven Hoffman and veteran striker Benjani Mwaruwari.

Wits have also confirmed that they will also not be exercising the options on the contracts of Keamogetse Wolff and Letsie Koapeng – both of whom spent the last six months on loan at AmaZulu and Chippa United respectively.

Also not staying put at the club is Sipho ‘Zane’ Mngomezulu – who also spent the second half of the past season on loan at Chippa – as he will be allowed to walk away as a free agent upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the month.

Meanwhile, pint-sized midfielder Ayanda Lubelo will return to his parent club – University of Pretoria – after struggling to make any impact at Wits.

Jose Ferreira, the Wits CEO, confirmed all of the latest developments to this morning.

“We will not be renewing Benjani’s contract which is the same for Mngomezulu while with Wolff and Letsie we will not be taking up the options that we had on their contracts. With Hoffman we had a meeting with his agent and we agreed that he will move on upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June. So in essence all these players are now free agents. With regards to Ayanda he has gone back to Tuks,” explains Ferreira.

Mwaruwari has already indicated that he could be hanging up his boots after an illustrious playing career that reached its peak at English champions Manchester City.

Wits have already also confirmed that they will not be retaining steady centre-back Thomas Sweswe, while Musa Bilankulu has been transferred to Bloemfontein Celtic on a permanent deal after spending the last six months on loan in the Free State capital.

Midfielder Matty Pattison has also left the Students.

I doubt there will be a team trying to sign Benjani. He is so useless, even a desperate like Pirates will never sign him. This player needs to cross the boarders and go back where he belongs, Zimbabwe and go with his fellow country mate Nkatha

but Gavin hunt never gave Thomas a fair  chance to prove himself especially when he(Gavin) was struggling to get a steady combination for the center back pairing ...but that is football for you ..wish these guys best of luck
