University of Pretoria coach Barker: Mkhwanazi will not be sold

Posted: 2 June 2014 Time: 09:35

University of Pretoria coach Steve Barker insists the club will not be selling highly-rated defender Buhle Mkhwanazi.

The Bafana Bafana centre-back, who impressed on the recent tour of Australasia, is rumoured to be a target of Soweto giants Orlando Pirates, as well as big-spending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Barker, however, maintains the 24-year-old is staying put.

“We will be not be engaging any team regarding Mkhwanazi, he is not going anywhere,” Barker tells

“We've reached a stage where we are stable and we need to compete in the League, and for us to do so, we need to keep our best players.”

Mkhwanazi is contracted to the Tshwane outfit until June 2016.

Meanwhile, Barker revealed he is likely to announce some new signings before the end of the week.

But you are buying players from other teams and don't want to let this boy fulfil his dreams of playing for a big team??

Who doesn't want to play for two Soweto giants in this country ?? its every players dream when they grow up including sundowns players.

Any way you will be relegated next season and will get this boy cheap

Tukkies is a small team, you can talk all you like Mr Barker but, a huge carrot is about to be dangled in front of both Mkhwanazi and Tukkies. Both parties wont resist

But should these two teams rumored to be eying him engage in a tug-of-war, we all know which one is gonna come out tops!

We need this boy, the truth is we are a bit thin at the back. We have two madals in Siya and LL14, we are in disparate need of young blood. Mkhwanazi.... what a player!

Phenyoza Morning Juju. That is the truth. At the end of the day the coach's permission is not even really required when the club decide to cash in on a player! But with that yellow s*it sniffing around, I am a bit scared.

Its only fair that this Barker man should release Mkhwanazi now,or risk losing the player for free next year....anyhow he know very well that the boy is going to Mighty Bucs....Nyoso FC cant afford him

I hope hope my team wont make the similar mistake that we committed last season when we failed to sign centerbacks when we had long term injuries to Sangweni and Mahamutsa. We need 2 quality centerbacks (Buhle and Gumede) and one midfielder a distroyer (Gyima). No need to sign strikers or wingers or attacking midfielders. Rightback and leftback covered.
