Barker slams Safa

The Dogs are barking at Safa and their appointment of Brazilian Joel Santana as national team coach. They add that Bafana Bafana’s recent performances are ‘a disgrace’.
According to reports on News24, Clive Barker is urging Safa to set up a meeting with former local Bafana coaches as a matter of urgency to map the way forward to the 2010 World Cup.
Barker terms Santana’s tenure as a ‘recipe for disaster’ because he maintains that Carlos Alberto Parreira’s successor has no international experience and cannot communicate with his players in English.
The current AmaZulu mentor added: “What Safa must do urgently is get all the local-born former Bafana coaches who had success with Bafana, such as myself, Trott Moloto, Shakes Mashaba and Jomo Sono, to a meeting to try and plan a way forward. We are going backwards with Santana. He is way out of his depth.”
“What were Safa thinking? We have credible coaches in South Africa who can do a far better job.”
Barker lays much of the blame at the feet of Safa chief executive officer Raymond Hack, saying: “I will tell Hack to his face when I see him that I am very disappointed in the way he is running Safa. By appointing Santana, who has no experience of international soccer, Safa are making Bafana a laughing stock. We need to stop the rot quickly.”
Earlier this week, Jomo Cosmos boss Jomo Sono has also termed Bafana Bafana’s failure to go to Angola for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in 2010 as a ‘disgrace’.
Speaking to KickOff.com, Sono said the recent poor performance by Bafana Bafana in international football has painted a bad picture for South Africa as hosts for the World Cup in 2010.
He added that both Irvin Khoza and Molefi Oliphant deserved to give the nation answers on the criteria used in selecting Joel Santana as Bafana coach.
“This is a disgrace. The African Cup of Nations is one of the most important tournaments and it was also going to be a good preparation for Bafana Bafana ahead of the World Cup in 2010.
“We can’t rely on these friendly games because they are not competitive. The Nations Cup would have been an ideal opportunity to sharpen and prepare the team for the World Cup.
“I don’t know how the interview was done or what criteria was used in appointing Santana as coach for Bafana Bafana; only Khoza and Oliphant can give you answers in that regard.”
