Mamelodi Sundowns have decided to take up the option of a further year on the contract of Walter Maponyane.
Meanwhile, Chippa United have raised a hand of interest in buying Maponyane after the 26-year-old spent a productive year on loan at the Premiership returnees.
KickOff.com has been informed that Sundowns have agreed in principle to extend the ex-youth international’s deal after sending his representative a letter to this effect.
“Sundowns are exercising the option on Maponyane’s contract but at the same time Chippa are also want to keep him and will actually want to buy him out from Sundowns. Peter Koutroulis (Chippa CEO) was at Chloorkop on Tuesday for a series of meetings regarding the players that they had on loan from Sundowns which they want to keep,” says a source.
Koutroulis has himself declared the National First Divison champions' interest in Maponyane, as well other players that spent the past season on loan with them.
Sundowns have also confirmed that they have been approached for several players that were on loan at other clubs, with talks ongoing.
Chippa had five players - Thabo Makgothi, Seun Ledwaba, Siyabulela Shai, Doctor Mampuru and Maponyane - on loan from the Brazilians in 2013/14.
