Leopards edge Milano in play-off

Posted: 18 May 2014 Time: 16:57

Maboke Matlakala scored the winner as Black Leopards beat Milano United 2-1 in a promotion play-off at Giyani Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Taariq Fielies had scored at both ends in the first half before Matlakala got the winner in the 53rd minute.

Leopards took an early lead when Fielies put Rendani Ndou’s cross past his own goalkeeper.

Lidoda Duvha continued to dominate as Milano hardly saw any off the ball, with Siphelele Ntshangase twice sending low shots wide of goal.

But against the run of play the visitors leveled on 32 minutes – and it was Fielies who redeemed himself; the defender sending a looping header from Abdul Jacobs’ free-kick into the back of the net.

Westen van der Linde produced an excellent save to deny Mumuni Abubakar on 50 minutes, but he could do nothing to keep out Maboke Matlakala’s shot from the edge of the area three minutes later.

Milano had a rare attack on 67 minutes when Leopards keeper David Mokhasi kept out Junaid Sait header, but they were unable to get the equaliser.

That means Leopards go to the top of the standings, followed by Polokwane City. Milano are last following one draw and one defeat.
