The first promotion play-off match between Milano United and Polokwane City ended in a goalless draw at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night.
In the first match of the play-offs - between the 15th-placed PSL side and second and third from the National First Division - Polokwane started the stronger of the two sides and had a few great chances early on.
They almost got the opener after nine minutes when the home side failed to deal with a free-kick. An initial shot was cleared off the line, before Vukile Mngqibisa’s follow-up hit the woodwork.
The visitors had another goal-bound shot from Esau Kanyenda cleared off the line, before Wensten van der Linde pulled off a fine save to deny the Malawian from range.
Puleng Tlolane and Thapelo Tshilo had great chances just before the break, but were unable to convert.
Milano were better after the break, but it was Polokwane who came closest to breaking the deadlock in time added-on when Galabgwe Moyana’s free-kick hit the up-right.
