PSL Match Report: FS Stars 1-1 Pirates

Posted: 6 May 2014 Time: 19:30

Free State Stars salvaged a 1-1 draw with Orlando Pirates on Tuesday night, with on-loan striker Richard Henyekane netting a last-gasp equaliser at Charles Mopeli Stadium.

Henyekane beat the offside trap to score in the 90th minute after Ayanda Gcaba had given Pirates the lead against his former side.

It means Stars still trail Polokwane City in the safety of 14th spot by two points going into Saturday’s final round of fixtures, which sees Ea Lla Koto travel to Moroka Swallows and City make the journey to SuperSport United.

The game never lived up to any great heights and perhaps a point was a fair result as both sides battled to find their rhythm.

Henyekane should have given his side the lead in the first half when he almost scored twice in 10 seconds. First he found himself one-on-one with Senzo Meyiwa in the Pirates goal but saw his shot saved, and when the return ball came in he did not move quick enough to turn it into an empty net.

The opening goal finally came on 69 minutes and it was a poor one for Stars to concede. Khethokwakhe Masuku’s long ball was headed home by Gcaba, but Ayanda Mtshali in the home goal should never have been beaten in the air.

It looked as though that was how it was going to finish until Henyekane raced clear to slip the ball past Meyiwa.

my sentiments exactly mfethu these people are so annoying! Everything they must recommend  someone to come coach, i dnt know wat makes them think anyone running a serious club will take tips about who to higher as their coach from a website full of drunkards like kick off.

Ours is to support the team and judge people at the right time, (end of a season) only then can we start demanding people's dismissal.

As for wat u say about rds, its so true the guy was doing a good job but people just changed up on him nd that is why we are about 20 points off the top. I remember losing to ssu in Jan, the team played so well but guys were missing very easy chances, but all you could read on kick off was "nywe nywe rodger must go, rodger must go" nx

All I'm saying really is that we should support the team and judge coaches at the end of a season, then if results are poor we can start making demands for people to be fired.

There's already an anti vv contingent and it's set to grow with every loss or draw, little do these people realise that they are destabilizing their own team.

VV cost us the maximum points here! Where on earth have you heard of defender substitution with unfit players unless necessitated by injury, especially where you are leading only by one goal??? If we finish outside top 8, VV will be to blame! Nxa! This sort of thing worries me going into next week's Nedbank final and the new season!

Will you stop whining, free state stars needed that point and yes it was off side no surprise there. But hey VV's mandate is to keep us in the top 8 and win the Nedbank Cup. Then we can judge him.
