PSL Match Report: University of Pretoria 0-1 Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 6 May 2014 Time: 19:24

Kaizer Chiefs relinquished their Premiership crown to Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday night despite beating University of Pretoria 1-0.

Katlego Mphela slotted a 76th minute penalty for Amakhosi to claim the three points at Mbombela Stadium.

However, it was a forgettable evening for Stuart Baxter's men as the Brazilians thumped SuperSport United 3-0 to win the League with a game to spare.

The Glamour Boys dictated the flow of play in their tie, but their passing in the attacking third repeatedly let them down.

Tuks looked to soak up the early pressure and hit on the counter-attack, and it was they who had the first shot on goal in the 21st minute. It was not a dangerous effort from Junior Sibande, however, who shot well over from range.

Tuks, though, were virtually non-existent in attack and Itumeleng Khune had very little to do between the sticks for Amakhosi.

Chiefs finally began turning their pressure into goal-scoring chances on the half-hour mark.

Initially, Siphiwe Tshabalala saw one of his trademark corners almost sneak under the crossbar, but Washington Arubi managed to get a hand to it. The ball fell to Mphela, but he headed wide from only a couple of yards out when he should have scored.

Four minutes later Tshabalala was the creator once more when a free-kick from the right side of the field found Tefu Mashamaite unmarked ten-yards out, but he headed straight at the keeper.

Chiefs fashioned another glorious scoring chance two minutes before the break when a long throw-in into the box by Tsepo Masilela was flicked into the path of Bernard Parker, but he headed wide from close range.

The second half was more of the same from Chiefs, but they finally made their pressure tell late on when they were awarded a penalty after Kgotso Moleko was brought down inside the box by Sibande.

'Killer' stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, but the goal brought little reward as Downs later marched to honours in Tshwane.

MmukiLehutjo  What are you about. In this season Musona was contracted to the job for Chiefs and as such we are entitled to comment about his contribution. If you don't know anything about football please don't comment here.

Congratulations Pitso, Big mouth and good results. Hardluck to Baxter, England football is to easy to overcome, we need better strategy next season. Khosi Nation, lets take a deep breath and come back stronger next season. PSL was competitive this season, there individual players who impressed, players like Manyisa(always puts up a good performance), Parker(always try even when he was off the form)), Hlompho, Modise (great performance, especially towards the end of the season and conributed immensely to PSL title) , Mashamaite(arguably the best centreback), Masilela(always sticks to the basics and solid in his position), Schuts(most dedicated player I have ever seen), Jele(I think this is the best right back we have now in the country) and few others, it was a good season of footbal. Best defence=Chiefs (conceaded fewest goals), Best attacking = Sundowns(the goals they score said it all), I think Pirated did well also to advance to Champions league and I must admit they were playing the best football when they were chasing CAF, their passing and attacking was superb.

All the best for everyone in the new season!!!

Stigaman we Khosi  @MmukiLehutjo this wrong in every way. I know we love football but for someone to reduce this to the death of human being is inhuman in every way. This is  very sick. I think some people think that just because we call each names in this block it gives them license to stupidity. it is just sick. I don't wish anybody died. An any player who has made it  to the profession need to be celebrated. Only few can archive that.@ MMukilehutjo you comment is sick and if you don't see that on a serious note you should not be in here.

ok boys u gave ur best shot though ur coach forced you supply a cow(nkatha) with balls and i saw u no longer wanted to pass him because u were tired of this cow  missing clear chance sand Sir baxter didn't realise that. Perhaps he doesn't know the player power in SA. heads up try next season hopefully Nkatha will not be part of the team.

Thank you Baxter and bobby it's not often that I will salute pitso for winning but yes he deserve it even with his arrogance, he also plays better football than chiefs & they buy good player and we don't we dump them.

The economy might be bad in British but Baxter no sympathy he must go... And we must get a football loving coach that understand amakhosi old culture with middlefielders

I think those who laugh about what happened to Khosi they are justified, our players are average, can't handle pressure and damn useless.AT one stage the league was in their hands and they decided with their pettiness, laziness and something without good judgment surrendered the trophy to PITSO,JUST IMAGINE.

They do not have respect for the fans and i hope that we do not attend the last and the  opening league game until we get a reasonable explanation to Bobby ,Chiefs need to compete with the best and play to win.Why must we buy ticket to go and get disappointment? Why must we participate in the carling cup when we know that we won't parade exciting players, why?
