PSL Match Report: University of Pretoria 0-1 Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 6 May 2014 Time: 19:24

Kaizer Chiefs relinquished their Premiership crown to Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday night despite beating University of Pretoria 1-0.

Katlego Mphela slotted a 76th minute penalty for Amakhosi to claim the three points at Mbombela Stadium.

However, it was a forgettable evening for Stuart Baxter's men as the Brazilians thumped SuperSport United 3-0 to win the League with a game to spare.

The Glamour Boys dictated the flow of play in their tie, but their passing in the attacking third repeatedly let them down.

Tuks looked to soak up the early pressure and hit on the counter-attack, and it was they who had the first shot on goal in the 21st minute. It was not a dangerous effort from Junior Sibande, however, who shot well over from range.

Tuks, though, were virtually non-existent in attack and Itumeleng Khune had very little to do between the sticks for Amakhosi.

Chiefs finally began turning their pressure into goal-scoring chances on the half-hour mark.

Initially, Siphiwe Tshabalala saw one of his trademark corners almost sneak under the crossbar, but Washington Arubi managed to get a hand to it. The ball fell to Mphela, but he headed wide from only a couple of yards out when he should have scored.

Four minutes later Tshabalala was the creator once more when a free-kick from the right side of the field found Tefu Mashamaite unmarked ten-yards out, but he headed straight at the keeper.

Chiefs fashioned another glorious scoring chance two minutes before the break when a long throw-in into the box by Tsepo Masilela was flicked into the path of Bernard Parker, but he headed wide from close range.

The second half was more of the same from Chiefs, but they finally made their pressure tell late on when they were awarded a penalty after Kgotso Moleko was brought down inside the box by Sibande.

'Killer' stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, but the goal brought little reward as Downs later marched to honours in Tshwane.

The PSL should include 4 more teams like in EPL, LFP etc whereby there are no playoffs 3 teams relegated straight and this thing of top 8 should change because will always complain about fatigue while we are not used to many matches like in Europe thats why they dont complain:

congratulation to Chiefs, they showed that they wanted it also... thats what happen if u have stubborn coaches, Ask Mourhino, he was also stubborn and made chelsea to walk empty handed.. But I gues Chiefs will win Macufe and win the black label.. that what is gud for them

Can we pull a Chippa Mpengesi on Gaxa, Nkhatha and Lebese......I won't mind not seeing them next season....

Infact there's a lot of deadwood that need to make way for new players at Chiefs.

Masango..... (Chiefs is not a Daycare or an Orphanage) he is failing to deliver...why keep him for this long

Baloyi..he's failing to impress...we have Goerge now, Baloyi can leave

Nkosi...really there's no space for him... I'm certain we can find someone better in that position

Dladla...its so unfotunate but he should be released cause his trial is taking forever

If Chiefs could get rid of these players...they'll be a space to bring in new blood who will be able to offer better services than the current one we are receiving from the abovementioned players.

Amen

And I'm glad Mphela is improving ..... constantly getting his name on the score sheet(regardless of whether it was a penalty or not, its a confident booster anyway).........and he's losing weight.

He shouldnt rest on his laurels during the off season break but he should work even harder , preparing for the next season....I reckon him and Musona will be instrumental in the next season's campaign

I know we won't lose Musona...I mean, what was the reason behind the fake injury kanty.

Musona doesn't belong to you. Why don't you keep faith in your own players. It's bcos you don't have players, just cows. What will happen if musona dies today. It means zebras will die too.

Stigaman we Khosi  I really don't want to see all the following players next season: Gaxa (too old), Tshabalala(no direction), Rusike(headless chicken), Nkhata(missing 30chances before scoring1), Lebese(lazy), Mpela(too old), Gould(Too fat), Masango(never made it),
