Mzimela: Bonuses motivated Chippa United in their promotion bid from the National First Division

Posted: 5 May 2014 Time: 16:37

Chippa United goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela believes the bonuses they received from club owner Chippa Mpengesi helped the side stay motivated in their successful bid for promotion.

The Chilli Boys claimed National First Division honours last month to seal an immediate return to the topflight.

“I would like to thank the chairman for pushing and putting more bonuses in the games and the guys were more motivated each and every game,” Mzimela tells

“The bonuses really helped because everyone here is working for money and if you put bonuses all the guys get motivated,” adds the former AmaZulu man.

Chippa will end their 2013/14 campaign against Cape Town neighbours Milano United on Sunday.

He says soccer is played for money and he's right but why couldn't they have done it without getting bonuses since they are already getting paid to play the game for winning cause no team wants to stay in nfd mos. So now that they are back in the big league what will be their motivation? to fight relegation and go down again? Mxm chippa isn't doing himself and team any favours with this but I guess he'll learn this the hard way again. I'm not against bosses giving incentives to players but if you carefully listen to what this guy is saying you'd realize that if not for those bonuses chippa would still be in the dreaded nfd. So the mentality is wrong. Once and always bucs.

my advice to Chippa,to stay stay in league, just draw all your games then you will have 30 points,if my calculator serves me well.other teams fail to secure 27 advice, take it or leave it

Buc-champ  lwts not forget that most NFD players earn around R5000 so if u pay them bonuses it will really be a big motivation. Now that they are in the PSL I believe the salaries will be improved thereby serving as motivation. Thr wont be that need for bonuses!

tgmlive Buc-champ they will get use to the PSL salary and then what? remember more money more demands. I just think this was a poor statement, it raises eyebrows on the credibility of the player/s.
