Chiefs slip up... again

Kaizer Chiefs have slipped up yet again in the League race following their 1-1 draw with Free State Stars at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.

The draw means Chiefs, who also drew their last match against Bidvest Wits, are now four points behind Mamelodi Sundowns with two rounds of matches still to play.

The first half was a scrappy affair, as was the second half. Defender Mulomowandau Mathoho came close to an opener in the seventh minute when he connected Siphiwe Tshabalala's corner, but his header was over the bar.

Perhaps the best chance of the half was Bernard Parker's header from close range in the 27th minute from another cross by 'Shabba', but Stars goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali was equal to the task.

Straight after the break Chiefs were on the offensive and just three minutes in Tsepo Masilela crossed for Parker, whose header was just over the bar.

With the pressure mounting to get a win at all costs, Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter replaced George Lebese with Katlego Mphela in the 61st minute and it took just eight minutes for 'Killer' to make an impact.

In the 69th minute, Mtshali went down under a challenge in the box but instead of staying down to get the referee's attention, the goalie was quick on his feet allowing for play to continue.

Gaxa sent in a cross and Mphela just missed it with a header, but the ball bounced off Paulus Masehe and off the crossbar, allowing Mphela to pounce for his first goal in Chiefs' colours.

Stars didn't give up though, as Masehe tried to beat Itumeleng Khune from distance in the 80th minute, but Bafana Bafana's number one was equal to the task.

However, Stars were not to be denied. Substitute Luyolo Nomandela beat Gaxa for pace in the 83rd minute down the left wing and put in a cross. Masilela tried to clear with his weaker right foot but Thabo Moloi, who also came off the bench, blocked with his leg catching Khune off guard and in it went in for the equaliser.
