Bidvest Wits Orlando Pirates PSL

Posted: 30 April 2014 Time: 18:55

Bidvest Wits played out to a third consecutive 0-0 draw in the League following a stalemate against Orlando Pirates at Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday night.

In a game of very few clear-cut chances, the Students perhaps shaded possession, though it seemed clear that both teams had their minds on their respective Nedbank Cup semi-finals on Saturday.

Pirates threatened first and came close to scoring twice in two minutes through Kermit Erasmus and Lennox Bacela, but on both occasions the ball went inches wide with Moeneeb Josephs in trouble.

Senzo Meyiwa had to tip over a long-range shot from Tebogo Moerane on 21 minutes, before saving with his legs to deny Sthembiso Ngcobo, who had got in behind Bucs’ defence with a great first touch.

Just past the half-hour mark Erasmus found himself with space and time inside the area but shot over, before Ngcobo produced a poor header from a cross from Denver Mukamba, who did well to skin Lucky Lekgwathi.

Oupa Manyisa had a long-range shot which troubled Josephs in the final minutes of the half, before Calvin Kadi scuffed his shot from Matthew Booth’s flick-on just wide.

Goal-mouth action was harder to come by in the second half, with the first effort coming on the hour-mark when substitute Sifiso Myeni headed wide from Daine Klate’s cross.

Wits were having much more of the ball in the second 45 and came close to making that count on 73 minutes when Jabu Shongwe looked certain to score but for a brave, last-ditch tackle from Rooi Mahamutsa.

Shongwe had another great chance in the dying seconds, but he hit the side-netting as the teams settled for a point apiece.

So it’s as you were in the League standings with Wits remaining third, while Pirates stay in fifth with two games remaining.

Don't feel anything after this draw. Very happy with the Zebra one. Wouldn't have cared even if we lost. Now I'm off to celebrate the draw of a club that was once leading the league by 13 points and calling itself a train till Mubele of DRC pointed out that this is a mere Zebra.

Bhakaniyas we are in big kak with this Vivian character in the hot seat of our ship, this coach doesn't seem to be ship captain, oh God bless us as the rough seas looks to be swallowing our ship very fast. I'm really really not seeing us coming out alive with our clueless captain Vivian, eish trying times seems to be getting worse, I'm so frustrated and if I can walk past Vivian now I would go to jail for what I might do. Once and always bucs.

KidKudu7  bhakaniya quote me now poi cause I can guarantee you that vivi will cause more damage than good if this rubbish he's busy with are anything to go by. I tell you now poi the hiring of this experimental disaster called vivi will not be for too long with us in the new season should he continue in this vain, its utter rubbish that he can chop and change and when it backfire he run his mouth off about fatigue, what a waste of a coach even tinkler looks now better than him. Mxm. Once and always bucs.

eeepirates achievement in their last participation earned our league two spots. so league winners and runners up. chiefs already tried to reverse those gains in their last show in the cl and cc. nx. I hope sundowns does as they did years ago.

in fact it is not possible for pirates to slip out of the top eight. the only effort goes towards either a top 4 or 5 finish. so please do your calculations right

I must say I liked VV's substituion yesterday...they were very promising..all good substitute, ts just that they dnt produce the rusults... I liked the way Erasmus played as well but he cud have done more/better...he had one on ones that he didnt use, or three on ones that he ddnt use... I dnt knw if Erasmus is afraid of taking players by himself or what...when u hv no one to support u bt facing three defenders infront of the posts what r u supposed to do?....either go back or forward, and he kept on taking the opponents n wait for them to take the ball..why cnt u attack them alone like u used to...like the way u dd to Gould against chiefs(sorry Khosi fans bt this is the only example i cn think of now)cum on Bucs lets not be afraid to explore our opponent, that wudnt mean u r selfish bt doing what u cn at the moment
