Premier Soccer League match report Orlando Pirates 1-1 Platinum Stars

Posted: 26 April 2014 Time: 14:18

Orlando Pirates were held to a 1-1 draw by Platinum Stars on Saturday, with substitute Lennox Bacela cancelling out Siphelele Mthembu's first-half opener for Dikwena at Orlando Stadium.

In a League tie where Stars were unluckily denied a penalty late on, Pirates threatened first as Oupa Manyisa flashed a long-range effort wide in the opening exchanges.

Allan Freese's men, though, stole ahead in the 32nd minute when ex-Buccaneer Mthembu powerfully headed home a left-wing cross by Mduduzi Nyanda to give his side a 1-0 lead at the break.

Bucs had a great chance to equalise 10 minutes after the interval, but Daine Klate placed a rather tame shot in the area straight at Siyabonga Mpontshane, who saved in unorthodox fashion by sitting on the ball.

The Sea Robbers, however, drew level on the hour-mark as Bacela rose above Vuyo Mere to shoulder the ball in with his first touch after replacing Tlou Segolela three minutes earlier.

Bacela pounced from a yard out after Mpontshane failed to get on the end of a Klate corner. The delivery was flicked on by Issa Sarr to Stars teammate Tintswalo Tshabalala, whose miscued clearance found Bacela at the back post.

The visitors should have been awarded a spot-kick in the 82nd minute, but referee Kulasande Qongqo, who was perfectly positioned, waved play on after Nyanda was tripped by Happy Jele in the box.

Pirates then nearly snatched a stoppage-time winner but Mpontshane pulled off a superb acrobatic stop to foil Thabo Matlaba's powerful strike from distance.

Such a DISASTER of a REFEREE .....Those rats never deserved a point in that game...a plain penalty and a fluke equaliser using a shoulder...shame....and they still have audacity to be jubilant for drawing a game at home nogal

I hope we do get Ngele, though injury prone, he is still special plus he will be the link we very much miss between defence n attack.

The result, anything that's not a loss is gud

So arrows trashed this team 4-1 making them look average and we were lucky to get a draw, a game we should've lost to a stars definite penalty. What does that say about the state of affairs in the bucs camp? One: first and foremost vivi is taking us nowhere and should be fired. Some players are clearly not good enough to play for us and must be transfer listed or given free clearance. Two: there are three urgent signings to be made, 2 centre backs and one centre midfielder. Awal and Mkwanazi and sarr, perhaps khoza is already cornering their clubs. Three: based on these past performances I would say there are other factors at play, other than fatigue and what not, like unity and also communication between players seems to be a problem as if they don't care or listen to one another. One thing is clear though, vivi is looking more and more like a disaster in the making than a actual benefit, time will tell. Once and always bucs.

Haaaaaai suka man wena Mr Editor!!! Your topic is misleading a lot. How do you say Pirates held by Dikwena while it should be vise-versa. We all know Pirates never play to win nowadays mos. A draw is very much appreciated @ Pirates, they even get a pat on their shoulders from the toothless Dr. Khoza.

"Well done boys, a draw is very good enough for us and the fans. Keep it up!!", said Khoza after the game. "We are very much unpredictable and I like it so much, we loose here, draw there. When they think we will win there, we suprise them en draw again", concluded Khoza.

"I like it for the Pirates", Good-Enough was heard saying @ the background!
